Going for a 100% defrosting of V Megatron.

I have never been happy with the ice on Voyager Megs. So when I finally got my hands on a Leader Class Megs, I decided to take an icepick to VMegs. The problem, as we all know, is figuring out what to do with the d@mn wings. All the other pieces can be removed, but those wings... you either completely loose them, or as one member(can't remember who, maybe Jin) did, mold some kind of material over them, a little like bondo for car dents. Which, as I recall, looked really great. But I figure them are probably kinda heavy now, plus, more importantly, I am NOT going to be able to reproduce his very nice results. Not something I am capable of... But I am good at taking things apart and putting them back together. So I decided to find entirely new wings for my VMegs. Easier said than done. But I have a lot of old parts around, and I came up with this. No, it's not even close to finished. But I've got real wings, albeit not exactly movie accuarate. But I like 'em. They are cut, fitted and done. Except for color. Which brings me to:

Who knows the best way to color a soft, vinyl type plastic? I don't think paint is gonna work well. I'm thinking about Krylon Fusion plastic paint, but I'm also considering dyeing them. Except I do not know how to dye things. I just think I'd rather they were dyed than painted. So if anyone can clue me to dyeing plastics, please let me know. Please?

BTW, first to guess what I cannabalized those wings from gets a cookie! And no hate mail for committing atrocities, he was dead already.

I know a secret. I know a secret.

I am, however, disqualified from the cookie competition. :tfsad

Hmm I feel like I should know something. Victory Saber/Leo?

I think you shoulda put them on backwards, but it still is cool.

Looking forward to seeing this one done. From what I've seen RD is doing some great customs.

Can't wait to see him finished. :tfgrin

Finished with the legs(aside from paint, obviously) so I thought I'd show what I did about his shins. Replacing the wings left me with a useless pull-handle from the silly wing/grabber feature. It's two tines happen to be the perfect size to play fill-in-the-blank, and all I really needed it for is to block off the hole left by the now defunct "feature". A little fitting, and his legs are more manly.

BTW, I've figured out how the chest piece works, which I had to do since I planned all along to have his face-cover working, sans ice.

I want to say Cybertron Prime, but I have a feeling I'm wrong.

Good guess, but no. Anyways, since I was never able to find any good info on dyeing vinyl/plastic, I went with the Krylon Fusion plastics paint. The best match I could find for the direction I'm going with Megs is the "hammered finish" silver. I think hammered refers to your condition after inhaling the amazing fumes this paint produces. The finish doesn't exactly look like they claimed, but really it looks about how I hoped it would. After this stuff cures a couple of days I'll reassemble them and start the final painting. I'm still fighting the d*mn rivet that hold the chest ice in place. Why couldn't they have just used a screw?! I've about got his new jet(?) mode face cover ready, but I can't begin fitting it until the ice is completely out of the way. The rest is about done, so hopefully detail paint can begin soon.
