RUMOR: Masterpiece G1 Grimlock in the works

Recommended Posts

This is a great idea, but it has to be G1 cartoon accurate, otherwise whats the point.

You make MP Megatron cry.

I always thought that the cartoon version of Grimlock looked simplistic and ...just plain simple compared to the toy. At the same time, I don't look at G1 Grimlock and think "boy, he really looks nothing like the cartoon, he really needs an update". He was one of the most show-accurate figures of that era. JMO

my comments had nothing to do with the original figure. and I'm not asking for a textureless figure. I just asking for a figure that when you see it you can't help but say 'When I watch transformers, this is the figure I expected them to make'

From what I can tell, MPs take a little from the cartoon and a little from the original toys to come up with a hybrid that results in a "masterpiece"

only problem is once you have 1 dinobot, you want them all.

However, isn't that the same way with the seekers. But at least they don't have to retool for those. True though if one dino go released now then it would seem like Takara/Tomy would be locked into making MP dinos for many years neglecting other characters.

I would also like to see a Hot Rod or Rodimus, question is could they do both as one and do justice to both alt modes. This would probably cost a lot for development so it maybe they should release one version like the much needed rodimus prime, and follow it up the next year, or even a few years later, with the other. This would also keep in line the trend of reusing existing tooling whenever possible. Which is where MP ironhide would be a good choice with a later released repaint for Ratchet.

Also the bullet head seekers would use much the same tooling as MP-4 and MP-6

Then the next logical choices would be one of Prowl, Smokescreen, or Bluestreak with the others released between releases of newer molds.

Soundwave with Frenzy and Buzzsaw would be a good MP pack with great additionsto come later.

if MP-X = Soundwave then they could release MP-XA releasing Ravage, Rumble, Lazerbeak, and Ratbat. or even break that one up into 2 seperate sets.

Other ones I would like to see would be Armor for Magnus and Galvatron. The possiblities for this line are virtually endless. I hope it continues for many years to come.

:) :) Any new MP mold is a must buy for me so having Grimlock is definitely good news for the MP line. Personally, I would prefer UMagnus armor first just to complete MP2 perfect edition.

Every time anyone mentioned MP Rodimus/Hotrod that exactly where my mind went...would it be possible to do a Masterpiece HotRod/RodimusPrime that had both not modes as well as both alt modes? I think it's a little far fetched, but would love to see it happen.

Nothing against Grimlock, I have laways loved the Dinobots, I just don't think that it is the best choice for the next Masterpiece. There are so many more characters that desrve a decent toy. Everyone can agree that an Ironhide/Ratchet would be the one of the best things since sliced bread. I wouldn't hold my breath on a Soundwave, I think we kind of got that one through the Music Label, not that I think it's deserving of the Masterpiece label, but.... I think that Sunstreaker and/or Wheeljack could make excellent candidates, but they would be unique molds, with no repaint/retool potential. Sideswipe has always been a favorite character of mine, and it could always be repainted/tooled into Red alert, of course I can't really say anything negative about the original figure. If they could pull off a triplechanger....

Problem with doing any of the cars is that they would be wasted on the Masterpiece line. They'd just be overpriced Alternators based on old cars. I'd rather see them do a new Alternators line that is G1 accurate than shoehorn cars into the Masterpiece line. Masterpiece should be reserved for characters that can't fit in other lines, IMO, so far that's what they've done. Grimlock, Rodimus Prime (but not Hot Rod), and Galvatron are all good fits for Masterpeice, though really, if they don't do a Rodimus like the Titanium version then I'm not interest, trailers just sit in a box, I don't display them.

I just mentioned this to a co-worker who likes toys, but mostly Marvel stuff and he said this:

Me: hmm... rumor has it that the next TF Masterpiece will be Grimlock. That would make my year

Him: Ya that was in the new toyfare that came out this week

Me: rumor or fact?

Him: they stated it a new masterpiece, didn;t state if it was next, but will be coming out either by the end of the year or beginning of next

Can someone please confirm this? Where do I get Toyfare?

*sigh*

A thread of nearly 5 pages, and he asks if we can confirm it.

ToyFare can be bought in comic stores and collector toy stores.

I read the entire thread prior to posting and saw nothing referencing Toyfare. Anyways, I wanted someone with a subscription to Toyfare to confirm the article exists, not the actual toy. My co-worker will scan and email it in the morning, so I'll be back tomorrow night with the scan, if nobody is able to post it first. And sorry, I hate comic books and none of the shops in KC sell TF's, so I had never seen a physical copy of Toyfare. Maybe Borders or B&N would carry it.

Bingo, most do. I'd check, but I'm nowhere near a bookstore at the moment. It would be interesting if this was mentioned in Toyfare, though. It wouldn't quite be an official confirmation, but they're not known for posting false info, either. Of course it's also possible your friend was mistaken, so we'll see.
