RUMOR: Masterpiece G1 Grimlock in the works

Skywarp is released now, so I guess any new MP should be announced pretty soon... Proof soon?

Sadly, I think Alternators took care of all the Autobot cars as close as we want to any MP scale/quality, so I don't expect to be seeing any regular-sized cars, save for Bumblebee maybe. Although I'll love any MPs they send our way. I just think that the time it would take to make a proper Devastator would be absurdly long, and releasing/collecting it would be a total pain in the wallet, not to mention ruining marriages for us nerds lucky enough to be married.

Someone else brought this up.

So far, it's gone original, repaint/retool, original, repaint/retool...

MP-01 - Prime

MP-02 - Ultra Magnus

MP-03 - Starscream

MP-04 - Complete Prime (w/o roller, and I don't expect to ever seen a roller either)

MP-05 - Megatron

MP-06 - Skywarp

MP-07 as Grimlock, I can see.

A) It's time for another non-car Autobot, and B) MP-08 will fill the slot for Thundercracker, leaving MP-09 for maybe Soundwave/another Decepticon original mold? MP-10 could be a conehead, if they decide to do it, but that's adding in 3 more solid-buys I think, and would help fill the Decepticon ranks for the Alt/Binaltech/MP collectors. Although getting up to MP-20, I don't see the line hanging on that long.

Alternators/Binaltech was severely flooded with Autobots (yes, they're cars, and for a reason)... I could also see the MP line leaning more towards the jets to flesh out the Decepticon ranks for collectors.

I could seriously see Grimlock and Soundwave being released, as they're iconic figures and damn cool. The rest of the Dinobots? Not so much, seeing as how their popularity kind of died off after the movie. Although I love them. I just don't see it happening.

Bumblebee? He was stiffed in the Alternators line because we couldn't get a fully-licensed figure. But I don't think that they had to get a license to make Prime into a semi-Freightliner-Kenworth-truckish type thing, which leads me to believe they very well could make Bumblebee as an MP. Just make it a cartoon-accurate bot with a very-close-to-a-VW-bug-vehicle mode, without having to have "VW" on the hood. I mean, something between a PT Cruiser and an classic Bug would work fine for most fans, and if you look at the cartoon, it's not like he's 100% accurate as a VW Bug anyways. He would HAVE to come with a 1/24th scale Sparkplug AND Spike to REALLY make it worth the money of the other MPs, but who knows. He's the only non-leader character I can see as an MP though, due to his iconic nature. As much as I love Ratchet and Ironhide, I don't see it. I do see the repaint appeal, but it's not as much of a repaint/retool potential as the Seekers and Coneheads.

I also don't want to see a Masterpiece Rodimus Prime and Galvatron yet, because I think to properly wrap up the line, you end it with those 2. And I don't want to see the line end yet. There's no retooling capabilities for either, and they kind of end the G1 era for most fans. UM was out of place in the timeline because he's a "logical" repaint of Prime.

Although if they released Shockwave, it wouldn't upset me. Although, I think the original figure holds up really well though, although they could squeeze in some more articulation. Complete Ultra Magnus would kick ass, but I don't see it happening. It would make him bigger than Prime/Megatron, which he should be... I just don't think they'll make any MPs bigger than Prime — including Grimlock.

I mean, I've followed this line for almost 3 years now, but I don't think that they can stretch it longer than 5 years, max. I think TakaraTomy will lose interest first before we will, but who knows. I'm hoping they don't start getting random like Alternators did towards the end just to squeeze out some repaints. I would hate to see, but actually won't be surprised, by a Dark Convoy of some sorts out of the Prime mold. It's just too likely to happen. At least we'd maybe get enough jets.

As much as Grimlock would rock, I'd rather see Ironhide/Ratchet as they never really got a proper (accurate) g1 toy and the Alternators had the chance with the scion for repaints, but again they were overlooked. They could be big van/trucks that would justify the MP line placement. and Since we know that Thundercracker is coming out with his picture being on Skywarps' box.

it's only a matter of time. I'll look through my Toyfare and see if there is an article for the next MP..If I find one I'll scan it in.

Since we know that Thundercracker is coming out with his picture being on Skywarps' box.

Since the starscream on that pic isn't green, you could also argue for another MP Starscream in G1 colors :P

Don't forget, there also has to a MP Megatron complete edition and I would be very much surprised if they won't try to get a repaint of that mold. Hopefully it'll be a black version (Browning), but I think Megaplex would be more likely: that is, afterall, the way the toy Megatron was released in Japan in the 80's. (Browning I'll buy, but neither Megatron or -plex holds enough interest for me.)

Since we know that Thundercracker is coming out with his picture being on Skywarps' box.

I guess you missed the news, Takara is releasing a G1 colored Starscream. It's said to be the same as the Walmart version (it's listed as "USA Edition") but without the black "soot/scortching".

While I think a MP Grimlock would be awesome I just believe it is just to early in the line for a Dino. I agree with Skywarp76 in that it will be an autobot with repaint/retool properties like Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen or Ironhide, Rachet or Cliffjumper, Bumblebee. That's just my opinion.

This thread is huge while not having any proof pic.......fun to keep seeing it so often.

Considering the relative complexity and size ratios between the ALTs and MP's, I doubt if you'll see any ALT characters or "lookalikes" redone (e.g., Skids was a lookalike for Ironhide, etc...).

My guess for the next MP would be a truly iconic, G1, character.

We already have the leaders.

We already have the seekers.

On speculation alone, my guess goes to Hotrod, BB, or Grimlock (the Alt rule not applying to HR because it was a limited release & therefore not really in sales competition with the same character at a higher price point).

After that, I'd imagine Soundwave, Shockwave, or an Insecticon.

Yep. For some reason, I think realistic, "car-sized" figures are out. Sadly, I think this includes vans, which are truck-sized. The ONLY cars I could see would be cartoon-accurate-ish BB and CJ (an easy repaint, although I hope they at least add a spoiler to CJ and a new head sculpt) and Rodimus Prime, which is a future-y car-ish truck thing.

Your mention of Insecticon seemed a bit odd, but take a look at the Robot Heroes collection. Aside from the usual repaints, there are a few odd figures in the mix, mainly Shrapnel, Mirage and Ravage, since I consider these cool characters but not "main guys", but we've gotten a regular Alternator/Binaltech Mirage/clear Mirage and too many alternator Ravages (and technically, he should come with Soundwave anyways) so I'd not at all be surprised by an Insecticon.

Although something nobody has mentioned, apparently Takara will indeed release an anime-accurate Starscream, so which # will he be? I'd hate for him to replace Thundercracker as the next Seeker released. I'd like to say it would be nice if they started releasing at least the seeker repaints at least two at a time, or closer together, just so we get them out faster and don't kill the line's longevity by stretching it too thin. I mean, we'll at least get Starscream and Thundercracker (crossing fingers), and quite possibly a retooled conehead trio, but that's a lot of filler jets between genuine new molds that you can't really get decent repaints of (like Megatron, or, say, Grimlock, Rodimus?). Although a complete Megatron would seem semi-logical following Complete Prime, I sort of hope people just settle for the JustiToys attachments and Takara leaves that alone and doesn't waste another release on it.
