GMC Topkick "'Ironhide Edition" Test-Drive

Extra are availble on almost anything.

you seemed to miss my point. the base model has the same spec engine and isn't that different so what justifies the 30k price tag when all you get is just cosmetic changes? i mean for a work horse that's what you don't want unless having an autobot logo on your tailgate is a must have in your work

The Topkick is normally sold as a commercial truck with a bare frame in the back. The extra $30k is for the pickup bed, etc. which isn't put in by GM but by a third party, so the labor costs are probably the lions share of that money.

so a flat bed with an autobot logo, some more lights and bigger mirrors cost as much as a new 350Z? its clear the ironhide model is just cashing in on the hype and is just a pimp spec. im ok with the base model being a work horse (a Blot one looking at the engine specs but still)

To replace a quarter-panel and door on my wife's car cost $12k...

well you cant really compare the cost of new bits of kit to repairs given the factors like labour, body repairs(im guessing the doors mounts were f**cked if the whole door needed to be replaced), painting while extras come fitted at an extra cost and for this package its clearly just about the fact its a movie replica and not because its needed to make this thing a better work truck

(please note im not 100% sure on how it works in the US but i used to work at a car repair centre here the the UK before going to uni)

But Ironhide is a custom job by a third party, you can't buy him like that straight from GMC - so things like body shop-like costs of labor, etc. do come into play - and places that do vehicle customizations like that usually run on the more expensive side.

i feel like a total tard for not seeing this tiny link http://www.monroetruck.com/index.asp turns out indeed their indeed after market parts made by Monroe i really wish they had put that detail in the article and not just called it a package. then i would not have made an ass of myself in the interwebs

yes you can buy him like that thats why they say its a 30k extras package and not a 30k after market mod by such and such company

and by the same token you can say the saleen 281E is a custom (that it is) but they do all the work and sell it at a flat rate you dont pay for labour etc

No, "Monroe Trucks" is the equivalent of Saleen where the Topkick is concerned, it's an aftermarket customizer - and of course you're paying the labor costs for such work, it's rolled into the price.

By the way have you checked out the price of a 281E, the Topkick looks like a bargin next to that:

Heh, no problem. That's what the interwebz are for...

i edited my post just after you quoted me it seems

and for the record the saleen has a hell of alot more work done on it what with the standard car being 350 bhp while the saleen makes somthing like 600 and has a whole new set of body panels, interior, sound system etc so the 70 grand price tag for such a car seems to work out ok in my book
