NEED A MP SHOCKWAVE BADLY!

Recommended Posts

Thundercracker is almost a given, I would think. Would seriously doubt Taktomy not milking the mold for all it's worth.

As for the next original design...well, at last year's botcon (I think) Hasbro said they had suggested that Grimlock would get the MP treatment. Of course, considering the fact that Taktomy developed MP-3 & 5 on their own, for all we know Hasbro's suggestion could be worth less then nothing (meaning that Taktomy following Hasbro's suggestion will now never make a MP Grimlock :P). Personally, I really wouldn't mind a MP Grimlock.

I don't think we'll get a MP Shockwave, though. I think the body likeness would cause copyright problems since the original design isn't owned by either Taktomy or Hasbro. Same goes for Jetfire. So, if we get a Shockwave, he'll be more like the Energon version.

Soundwave is a very iconic character so there's a good chance he might be made. However, it would mean they should also include several of his cassettes and that might be troublesome for development cost and selling price.

My number one favorite would be if that leaked Tank Megatron would be made afterall. That, or a MP G2 Megatron. Can be sold in the Hasbro market as 15th anniversary G2 Megatron, while Taktomy can go for a 10th anniversary BW2 Megastorm.

"You, who are without mercy, now plead for it? I thought you were made of sterner stuff..."

What's ironic is that if Optimus Prime wasn't so full of himself and caught up in his own speech, he would have just blasted Megatron and end up not dying.

lol! How True! That dumb-ass Hot Rod wouldn't have had time to mess things up!

Um. Caught up in his own speech? He had a single line, answering Megatron's plea for mercy. Prime wouldn't be Prime if he just blasted a helpless Transformer who was pleading for mercy without saying something.

There's no "character" associated with the G1 Shockwave license except G1 Shockwave, so Takara wouldn't get in trouble unless they used molds that didn't belong to them, which wouldn't be the case with an MP figure. If there had been any issue with the likeness we wouldn't have gotten Energon or Alternator versions. I really doubt the look of the gun would cause any concern, either. Toy companies don't need to get firearm companies' permission to have toys "look" like the real thing in any way, so I don't think an MP Shockwave, which is a HasTak character, that transforms into something that looks like another toy gun isn't going to be any sort of legal problem. Besides, no one's making any money on the design right now anyway - you have to use a copywrite in order to keep it. There might be some crappy Chinese company making Shockwave knockoffs but they don't care about copywrites over there anyway, I doubt there'd be any sort of problem whatsoever.

Jetfire might pose a bit more of a problem, because there's a continuing use of all that Macross/Robotech stuff, and it's a pretty unique design... but a cartoon-accurate MP figure might be sufficiently different enough from the whole Macross look... You never know. They might be able to work out some sort of deal with the company that owns the likeness, too.

Soundwave won't be a problem. His transformation is very simplistic, and would remain so in an MP version. There wouldn't be anywhere near the development involved in a figure like Starscream or Megs. They'd probably only include Laserbeak, to keep costs down... MAYBE Ravage if we're lucky too. There certainly wouldn't be "several" cassettes, certainly not more than two.

I think something that has to be kept in mind is, as a predominately Japanese offering, any future MP will likely reflect the preferences of the Japanese TF market - and I've always been under the impression that neither Laserwave or Grimlock was as popular with the Japanese.

I feel as though, if they made a Masterpiece Soundwave, they'd make Rumble and Frenzy. Takara loves redecoes, and those two would be the most easily redecoed (considering Buzzsaw and Laserbeak are too similar and not nearly as popular). Rather than having to make two molds for the two tapes, they could just use one.

However, Laserbeak and Ravage are more iconic... maybe in a second set (like MP-01 to MP-04, screwing over people who bought MP-01 and ripping off those who buy MP-04)?

No way, Soundwave ALWAYS came with the bird... And not nearly as popular? I'm not sure where that idea stems from... What I could see is them doing Buzzsaw and maybe, maybe release a four-pack with Rumble, Frenzy, Laserbeak and Ravage. If we're really lucky, that is - we'd probably only get Laserbeak though.

As for Shockwave or Grimlock not being popular in Japan, it makes me wonder why they were included in Binaltech/Alternators, Energon, TF Heroes... Yeah, sure, maybe not AS popular as Convoy, Megs, or the Seekers, but you're gonna start to run out of the big guys soon and I can't imagine that they're that disliked/unpopular over there.

Buzzsaw got next to NO screentime in the G1 series, and hasn't had a new-mold figure since the original. All he's had were redecoes of Laserbeak.

And I'd like to point out the Japanese version of Soundwave came with Rumble, not a bird. And, as this figure would likely be more directed towards a Japanese audiance, I believe that may play a part.

Rumble and Frenzy have both had new versions since then (Frenzy even had a G2 incarnation, Rumble's had Alternators, and they were both in the Music Label line), and I feel that fans would be able to do more with them than they would Laserbeak and Buzzsaw.

Who knows. Maybe I'm wrong and they go with Laserbeack and Ravage. It'd be nice, especially since they'd need to make two molds rather than one. Of course, they probably won't even make a Masterpiece Soundwave. But I'm still fairly certain they'd sooner go with Rumble and Frenzy over Laserbeak and Buzzsaw. Not sure if they'd go Rumble and Frenzy over Laserbeak and Ravage, but definitely over Laserbeck and Buzzsaw.
