A theory of Transformer Genders. Just a Theory.

Recommended Posts

My take on transformers having gender was always this.

If you take the spark theory of transformer life, than transformers aren’t really robots. More like energy beings hitting each other with robots. So the question isn’t “do robots have sex.” Its “do cybertronian energy beings have sex”. I’d say not what we’d call sex, but that does not mean that they do not practice a form of “sexual” reproduction. This seems likely given that Cybertronians seem to have genders.

The Female/Male difference in Cybertronians is in the polarity of their spark. As for the structural similarity to human females, that’s no harder to explain than why robots from outer space are bipeds with two arms, one head, and fingers.

TF “sex”.

I have entertained the idea that when two cybertronian “mingle” or touch sparks that some times there is a reaction where by a third spark is generated. The “infant spark” stays within the parental spark it does not share polarity with. IE: male sparks carry female child sparks and female sparks carry male sparks. When the new spark has siphoned enough energy from the parent spark to exist on its own it separates from the parent and is placed in to a body that has been built for it.

You could then say that the body is then taken to vector sigma to be given a personality/programming. So vector sigma gives them information, but it is the spark that gives them life.

This is just a theory. I don’t have any neat citations, but it works for me. It’s not even dirty.

I'm sorry but no matter how you try to phrase it, female sparks are just too damn rare to play a viable role in reproduction. If that were the case, the cybertronian race would have killed itself off long ago due to the civil war and not enough "breeding" pairs to repopulate the factions. I think that the way it went in G1 is that all transformers created "naturally" by Vector Sigma and the Matrix have the male gender, and females are "artificial" cybertronians that the "natural" males created for companionship. By the time BW rolled around, the cybertronians had enough exposure to sentient organics that they figured out a way to create "natural" females, which is why they're more common at that point in time.

When Tigatron and Airrazor "mingled" they created a new being, but ceased to exist themselves.

Just throwin' that out there.

I still think they're built like any machine gets built, and then the Matrix/Allspark/Vector Sigma tosses a spark inside when the body is ready.

Oh, I just had another thought.

What if, back during G1, there were plenty of females around but due to the war, their sparks were put in masculine bodies since that body type was more suitable for combat roles? And what if the fembots even referred to themselves as male as a means of hiding their weaknesses from the enemy? Who knows, maybe Ultra Magnus was one of these "cross-dressing" fembots, hence why "she" was always going on about how she "Can't deal with that now".

That sounds good. How do the sparks exist in the first place? Are they just various personalities that have developed over the millions of years or what? Do the Transformer's experience amongst so many alien worlds have some kind of influence on them?

Oh, I just had another thought.

You hate women don't you? Or you at least think very poorly of them it would seem from your comments of them on here.

Anyhoo - I think TF's build bodies and Sparks are given to those bodies. After being a protoform, the body is reconstructed either by other TFs, the stasis pod, or some other machination that turns them into whatever gender the TF wants. IMO, gender is just a preference. I think it originated from the Cybertronians being used as laborers, servers, war machines, and other designated tasks and/or just being introduced to other gendered species. Personas over time developed more and more differently producing Feminine and Masculine "genders". Then it just became part of the culture. I think the companionship and love aspect of the two genders was originally just a programming development and a surveillence of other species that became adapted by them in time. Then as time went on, the war purged the feminine personas from Cybertron either through migration or destruction since "Female" Cybertronians were not nearly as numerous as the "Male" Cybertronians due to the developing needs to TFs originally.

And yes - I think Cybertronians could have "gay" companionships if they were so inclined, even if they developed a culture around replicating the male + female relationships.

well stated! ooops :)

That comment about Ultra Magnus was a joke :roll

Of course. I know.

I just meant in general, your comments towards women seem less than favorable overall. I'm not trying to start a fight or fuss and if you would prefer to go to PM on this, do so, but it just came out when I posted. Though I don't know you in real life, I stand by my observation (as near-sighted as it might be).

I'm just distrustful of women because I've read a lot of horror stories about them on messageboards. The overriding theme seems to be that they're emotionally unstable creatures who put their own emotional satisfaction before the welfare of other people and they really don't understand the full consequences of their actions. It's like those kinds of women have the mentality of children.

Back on topic:

I still think it's possible that most of the fembots modified their bodies to make them more suitable for combat, which meant taking on masculine traits and burying their femininity for the time being.
