On June 28, Transformers grossed $2,033,471 making it the 17th highest grossing movie opening day. (Source: Movie Marshal) - this is especially good considering that the movie was opened outside of school holidays and Boxing Day, which are typically the highest grossing times for opening days (if you're wondering why Happy Feet and Meet The Fockers have outscored Transformers it's because those movies opened on Boxing Day). But you can see most of the other movies that have outdone Transformers are ones with MASSIVE fanbases like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. To all-time 17th, and especially outside of the holiday season, is a really good accomplishment.

Also noteworthy is the fact that Transformers is 3 places above the opening day record for Spiderman 3; considering that Spidey 3 had DOUBLE the budget of Transformers.

My original take was something like this:

Day 1 - July 2: $8.8 million

Day 2 - July 3: $25 million (estimated at $27.4 million)

Day 3 - July 4: $35 million

Day 4 - July 5: $10 million

Day 5 - July 6: $22 million

Day 6 - July 7: $19 million

Day 7 - July 8: $18 million

Total: $129 million

Friday-Sunday: $59 million

Check out of the totals. We can track and see how well the movie does. My original predictions seems to be close so far.

I have a bet with someone at work for $100. He said spiderman 3 will gross more than transformers the first month. I don't know, I think I got it in the bag.

Also noteworthy is the fact that Transformers is 3 places above the opening day record for Spiderman 3; considering that Spidey 3 had DOUBLE the budget of Transformers.

That IS promising considering Spidey3 holds the record for biggest opening weekend.
