Some things to keep in mind in order to fully appreciate this movie though...

1/ It's a Hollywood action movie. Please don't expect say some arthouse level of drama or deeply philosophical storyline. It's meant to be a 'rollercoaster ride' kind of action movie. You hop on, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.

2/ It's meant for a general movie going audience. So leave your fan-wankage at home. Everything is based on Transformers G1, but it's not going to be exactly the same - some things are changed in order to make it more palatable for a general audience, and this means humans! This story is told from a human perspective. G1 was originally told from the Transformers perspective, which fans have grown to love, but in order for a general public audience to empathise and care for these characters, the story needs to be told from a human POV. This also means a lot of close shots and tight angles because this helps to give the Transformers this sense of immense scale and size, hammering in the fact that they are giant robots. Again, very different from the visual narrative style of G1, but you must understand that it's needed for a general audience of non Transfans.

Keep these things in mind and you ought to be able to enjoy the movie in the context of what it's supposed to be and what it is supposed to achieve. They changed a lot of things in the X-Men trilogy and they were still very enjoyable films. Ditto Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter etc. These things are an inevitability.

All the negative things that I've read from others who've seen the movie have just been really itty bitty trivial stuff - most of which only fanboys would care about. On the whole it's a really well executed movie that one should enjoy provided that you don't view it out of context.

Hi. I have a question to the lucky girls and guys who saw this blockbuster : Do the Autobots and the Decepticons have their faction symbol ? Where are they located in alt and bot mode ? (if seen in the movie of course) . For example , Bumblebee has it on its head in bot mode, Barricade over its doors in car mode... I'm too lazy to check the pics of the toys :tflaugh

A few things in the book kept bothering me... is it like this in the movie?

#1 Do Sam and Mikaela talk like real teenagers or like teenagers reading lines written by a forty-something year old writer?

#2

In the book during the final battle, the AC-130 was being called in to "bring the rain" but it's never mentioned as showing up. This is one of my favorite gunships and I really hope it's featured.

The whole All Spark making a cell phone come to life seems very stupid. Did they pull it off in the movie?

Prime wanted to kill himself and the All Spark from the get go. I kept hearing the "Hardware Wars" line - No, you go on without me. I'll be alright... Martyr!, What a martyr... See ya' later, ya' martyr, ya'... Is he really that emo in the movie?

Prime was very quick to give up on Cybertron and pitch his tent on Earth. What a dork. His home world was destroyed and he wants to destroy the one thing that could fix it? I'm sorry this isn't really a question, I just don't like the whole "THE ALLSPARK IS THE GREATEST THING IN THE UNIVERSE - LET'S DESTROY IT NOOOOW vibe I got from the book.

Fox in a swimsuit? ;)

I always liked that line from one of the Naked Weapon movies - "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?" and the guy pulls out a pistol. ;)

Better in Ace Ventura Pet Dick though/

#1: They sound like authentic teenagers to me. Sam started getting on my nerves at one stage and I began thinking, "Man, this guy's a real wanker..." then I remembered that he's meant to be a high schooler, and it all made sense. ;)

#2: Yeah, you see it. You can see it in the Blacklab music video.

#3: Yes.

As other have explained - although the AllSpark is capable of bringing machines to life, since they are devoid of an actual artificial brain (as presumable TF protoforms would be pre-constructed with), they go totally feral.

#4: Heheh, Hardware Wars..

I wouldn't say he's emo - he basically says that his primary objective is to retrieve the AllSpark and prevent it from falling into Megatron's hands - but "Plan B" is that if he fails in doing this and is being killed, the plan is to shove the AllSpark into his chest - thus sacrificing himself by destroying the AllSpark rather than letting it fall into Megatron's clutches. I think to have that Hardware Wars level of emo-martyrism would be to have him sacrifice himself as Plan A, but it's not. Plan A is actually to try and retrieve the AllSpark in tact - after all, they need it to save Cybertron. Plan B is enacted if Plan A fails - which it does, but luckily for Prime Sam spontaneously comes up with a Plan C. ;)

As I said before, their original plan was to retrieve the AllSpark in tact so they could bring it home and save Cybertron. That's Plan A. But if Plan A fails, then Megatron would get the AllSpark which means that Cybertron, Earth and countless other worlds would fall under his destructive grip.

Utilitarian morality states that "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few," in this case

the freedom of the entire galaxy outweighs the sanctity of a single planet such as Cybertron. Although it pains Optimus Prime to do so - he is willing to sacrifice Cybertron, if it means saving many other worlds.

And as Spock has taught us, the Utilitarian decision is logically the most ethical (or ethically the most logical :P).

#6: Er... not that I recall. But she does wear pretty skimpy clothing, cos ya know... teen girls love looking trashy. ;)
