Tom DeSanto Interview

Hey - if you are bringing in Grimlock - give him a kickass tank form, or missile tank form, or some big-ass military vehicle. Grimlock just needs to be like the G1 Comics: smart, brutal, and a good tactician (of course IMO).

The Comic Versions of the Dinobots were AWESOME - smart, effective, skilled, and powerful as hell.

SSWWOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSHHHHH!!!

Over my head.

Now What??

Why not just call him "Warpath" then?

Guess I can't have a tank Grimlock, huh Pete?

Grimlock and Warpath are very, very different characters, who have totally different views and goals.

But hey, whatever, just call him Warpath.

:tflaugh Well I'm just saying, how can you imagine Grimlock *not* being a big fatass T-Rex? (no, not the Jurassic Park Beast Megatron version either; I'm talking cold-blooded, tail-dragging, Geewun Authentic Grimlock)

They really haven't deviated that much from the original G1 alt modes (ZOMG WE NEVER SAW MEGATRON'S CYBERTRONIAN ALT MODE IN G1 SO HE COULD HAVE BEEN A SPACE JET FOR ALL WE KNOW OKAY), and for someone like Grimlock whose alt mode is so tied to his character.... I don't see the point of having him in the movie if he's just going to be another Earth vehicle. (Hence the Warpath comment -- the dino mode is a lot of what makes Grimlock who he is.)

It's actually easy for me to see Grimlock as a tank or armored vehicle. This is one of those Cartoon vs. Comics things. In the comics, the Dinobots were originally on the Ark and awakened by the Ark's computer to fight Shockwave and they scanned dino-forms, and fought against Shockwave. The Dinobots weren't always tied to their dinomodes in the Comics. But again, apples and oranges, at least to me. Grimlock in the Comics was democratically elected by the other Autobots to be leader after Prime's first death, that says more (to me personally) than his Cartoon's 'tard-brained version (even though I sitll love the Cartoon Dinobots). Prime also chose him as Second-in-Command over Prowl near the end of the Comics. So to me, Grimlock is less tied to his alt mode than others might be.

I guess I just can't ever think "Grimlock" without thinking "S.O.S. Dinobots"... for good or ill

Grimlock works extremely well as a tank in the WWII TF/G.I. Joe comics. I'd prefer the name and the character over the dino....it's what more people will recognize over "dinosaur" anyway. I M O

*disagree*

"Me, Grimlock" & T-Rex seem inextricably intertwined... IMO

Maybe he could be a triple changer?

Just a thought.

at some point though, don't you lose the reason for putting him in a movie to begin with? But I guess that does depend on what you consider to be the core of the character. To me it's the dinosaur thing.

I agree that it depends on what you view is the core of the Character (which is why Atmo has such trouble with movie Starscream). To me, Grimlock is a very tough, powerful, military tactician who often (but not always) uses violence and strongarming, as well as his team's overall power to win battles...more so than a T-Rex with the intelligence of a 3 year old.

EDIT - However, I honestly don't mind him being a T-Rex in the movies if the story makes it work in the films. What I don't want is another retard-minded Grimlock.

I might have to fan-argue with you on that point.
