Do the Botcon seekers just cost too damn much?

Recommended Posts

It only slightly irks me that they're not going to release a Classics Thundercracker for the mass market, simply because they've already released Starscream and Skywarp. I just hate seeing Thundercracker getting shafted - AGAIN (because Thundercracker's had a looooong history of getting the short end of the stick).

But I have all three Robot Masters Sky Raiders, so I'm good. ;)

:tflaugh Sky Raiders

I'll have to agree, it would have been nice for Hasbro to take one for the company and produce Thundercracker in another two-pack exclusive for a different retailer. They may yet in a different series in the future, you never know.

What if you say... only got what you paid for, and the con only asked us to pay for what we got? Radical concept?

If they did what you suggest, it would no longer be an exclusive and they would be operating a different type of business.

Sky Raiders

That's the official term for the G1 Decepticon jets. "Seekers" is a fan-made term. *nods*

I know. I just think it's funny when people mention it.

Instead I'll save my precious euro's for a MP seekerset, they'll blow those poor Classics out of the water.

Same here.

Personally, I don't think the botcon sets are too expensive. Sure I can make them at home for less but they won't be official product and less durable. Besides, if I would charge the hours I'd spent on making them, they'd cost a whole lot more. Limited production run is expensive.

As for the CL seekers I think a different approach might have been better. I think Hasbro would've done better offering them as 2-packs for the price of a Voyager (or slightly chearper, say halfway). The first pack could've been the basic design featuring Starscream & Thundercracker. The second set could've been the Ramjet remold for Ramjet and Dirge. And finally they could've made a mix between the Starscream and the Ramjet mold (Ramjet nocesone, Starscream overal body design) with some new parts in the shape of VTOL vents which would be added (glued) on the wings for Thrust and Thundercracker (which would've made Skywarp an Armada homage, but still workable).

But that's just IMO.

I was excited about this Botcon even before we new what the exclusives were. Its going to be my first :clap and I had the gut feeling about the movie. I can say I like the exclusives and probably would have ordedred them even if I could not make it. Wheter they are classics or not, I was more excited about Dreadwing & Bugbite more than the seekers. The one thing I am feeling a bit weird about is my desire to order MP3 Soundwave as my classics version of the character. :roll It fits the line for me.

Yeah, I'd totally buy that. For $20 like the UM/Skywarp set, absolutely.

I don't think that the Botcon exclusive sets are too expensive in comparison to previous Botcon exclusives. However, I think this year the exclusives are causing a lot of us fans a lot of heartache because we all liked what was happening with the Classics and we all wanted to see the rest of the'Seekers' get the same treatment Starscream and Ramjet got. I think a lot of the fans were hoping that after the initial movie toy blitz we might see some more Classics and Alts, but this seems to put the nail in the coffin. It seems like if there was going to be a possibility of a mass release, it is now highly unlikely since they pulled the trigger and made the Seekers for the Botcon set.

It seems like Hasbro felt that the Classsics just weren't successful. They reported a 34% increase in sales last year, but they attribute half of that to the Marvel license and Spider man toys, and a majority of the remaining half to Nerf gun sales. Transformers were never mentioned in their press release.
