Titanium War Within 6-Inch Sunstorm, Ultra Magnus

It's not a question of detail (which is irrelevant, unless you think that they should have showed White Prime transforming into UM's trailer or something) but of characters. Ultra Magnus, the character, was only ever "Ultra Magnus" in the show/comics.
Just because he didn't take the armor off don't mean he wasn't wearing any. And the logic of "the only things that exist is what you can see" is wrong. You'd be implying that they didn't have sparks back then and then when another series "retconed" it in, their sparks magically appeared <.<

Sorry, but you still sound like you're full of crap.

I had Ultra Magnus in '86 or so.

That's not the UM they released back then. The UM from the actual G1 line was an undecoed white Prime figure with no paint applied.

I'm not raving mad about the repaints. I think it was a cool idea that's been overdone, taking away Magnus' individuality.

But in 1986, there was no Magnus except for Ultra Magnus.

The cartoon is the basis of what I regard as canon. You may have different sources. If so, fine.

I know that the Marvel comics have a devout following online.

But the cartoon reached more people. In the cartoon, we see him transform and he isn't a white Prime with armor.

People who regard the cartoon as canon (or I suspect, the Marvel comic, which also showed him transform without White Prime, as I recall) won't regard the toys or comics that came out 20 years later as being canon over what they grew up with.

I'm not one of those people who gets all that upset over White Prime repaints. If I like it, I'll buy it. If not, I won't.

But it'll be a cold day before anyone convinces me that White Prime is authentic G1 any more than KISS Manga is.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's because that back then during G1, I thought that the little white toy Prime had more to do with Ultra Magnus in the show. I just refuse to believe that I'm the only one that thought so.

It's illogical to think that everyone, especially the ones running the TF franchise, wouldn't consider that.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Oh?

Okay, I'll forgive the overlooking of the reference. But here's what I mean:

a) Starting with "maybe it's just me", you explain how you always thought that White Prime "had more to do with Ultra Magnus in the show."

b) You finish up that thought with "I just refuse to believe that I'm the only one" who held this opinion.

You then extrapolate, based on (a) and (b), that

c) It's illogical to think that "everyone, especially the ones running the TF franchise" wouldn't have thought as you did.

Here's the problem. Both of your premises are based on your own subjective experience and opinion, and nothing more. And yet you have drawn from them a conclusion that would require objective awareness of the opinions of others, particularly those at Hasbro, Sunbow, etc. (That in itself would be a notable accomplishment, given your age at the time.) Your conclusion does not logically follow from your premises and instead relies on mere supposition. Therefore, your conclusion is unsupportable.

So when I speak of you misusing the word "illogical", that is precisely what I mean.

I don't get the problem.

I like the reg. Titanium Magnus and the WW Magnus...

Is that so wron'g?

To muddy the waters:

Just before, or around the time of, Dreamwave's G1 series, the Transformers: Armada figure known in the west as Overload was being developed. We can probably safely assume it was developed independently of the DW comics coming out at the same time because of the protracted development time for the toy.

Now, this toy bears many similarities to Ultra Magnus from G1. Many assumed, when seeing prototypes, that it would be Ultra Magnus. He was a small truck that combined with a large trailer as 'armour' or in this case the main body. The toy was later repainted INTO Ultra Magnus for Transformers: Energon.

Even more so, in Japan the toy WAS CALLED Ultra Magnus. And what was the name of the mini-con who served as the truck and the head and combined with the trailer to form Ultra Magnus? Magnus.

So there you have at least one instance of a TF from another line, developed independently of DW G1 continuity, who is Ultra Magnus with the armour and also has a none-armoured form. Of course, you can debate whether not it appeared in G1 or Armada coninuity and whatnot to death, but IMO it does add a little weight to the 'white Prime' form of Magnus being official, just as the Titanium Magnus adds weight to it being unofficial.

Now, back to it! Entertain me further!

Poop is an inevitable side effect of eating. While I never poop in public and in never shows or plays a role in my daily life aside from my thoughts and my personal space, does not mean it never should have a name or character.

The only "White Prime" Magnus that has any reason to exist is the Revoltech figure, since it's the only one specifically based on the character that Dreamwave created which appeared specifically and only in their own comic books that they made. And stuff. MP-02 is okay, I guess.
No one but you uptight fanboys say that no white Magnus supposed to exist. Hasbro/Takara-Tomy says it does supposed to exist, which is why it does. Their word is official, yours isn't. There's no debating it.

So every time Hasbro churns out a new figure or repaint it instantly becomes canonical? Then Darth Vader really DID turn into the Death Star! I knew there was a deleted scene in there somewhere.

Teletran 1's take on continuities

OK some people have to be brought back to actual reality. lets's get some base rules here:

1) This whole conversation is based at it's core on a bunch of children's toys that were marketted under the licence "Transformers" by Hasbro and Takara starting in or around 1984.

2) These toys were actually re-releases of toys originally made by Takara in the 70s, all of them being to represent a group of Giant Fighting Robots that change into Cars, Jets, Casset players, ect...

3) The term G1 relates to any materials based on toys released under the Transformers licence prior to the release of Transformers Generation 2 properties in 1992. (Even though G2 is based on G1 itself and can be seen as an offshoot)

4) There are multiple continuities thatexist that can be considered "G1" including the oringal Sunbow Cartoon, the Marvel Comics continuity, the Dreamwave main continuity, and the IDW main continuity.

That is it. That is G1 in a nutsell. Please stop arguing seperate continuities.

And for the record in the Sunbow Cartoon and Marvel Comic Ultra Magnus was not a prime in armor for the very fact that he never did. There is no "just because it never happened doesn't make it not true" because the whole of those two cosms only exist within the confines of what was in the show and the comic respectively. The beauty of a micrcosm is that it can be studied en toto, and these two show no proof that he was a white prime. From his introduction (the movie in the cartoon continuity, and Target 2006 in the comic continuity, don't get me started on American vs British continuity please.) until the show ended, or the comic series ended he never once was seen without the trailer as part of him, and his face never looked like Prime's. Only the DW continuity made him a Prime look-a-like.

Also, I believe the first time the term "Spark" was used was in beast wars. I can gyess that the spark is what Vector Sigma gave the Stunticons and Aerialbots, but I can't be sure. I do know that the Combaticons were created using Brain Modules, and that Wheeljack and Ratchet have the power of the gods because they built the Dinobots from scratch... or maybe canibalized Hauler.

:pfx X2

I loved playing with "Magnus" as a child but, you know what? I never saw him in any (official) media form until Dreamwave.

So...hate to say it: end of argument.

:lock :lock :lock

I also :pfx to that statement

and FYI the Stunticons were given "independently functioning / cybernetic personalities". There's also a reference to a Transformer's "laser core" (gotta love that 80's cartoon-speak) being the heart of a Transformer, but that's about all there is. Back then there was no metaphysical component to Transformers; it was all materially driven.

has any one said this yet, "If you dont like white Prime repaints, don't buy em and STFU!!"? Hasbro can make what ever they want. buy it or dont. Every decision hasbro makes, they do it because fans demanded it /or they think it will make money.
