If Megs wasnt around anymore, I think that Shockwave would be the best choice for leader of the Con's. :beer

Soundwave was most loyal to Megatron... you think he might follow in his footsteps?

Still, he'd have to compete with Starscream, Shockwave, etc.

Megatron was also arrogant, though. Its a trait that comes with all those evil who aspire to be more. Starscream and Shockwave share it as well.

I'd perfer Megatron as the leader. I'd honestly could not view Starscream withen my mind as the new leader of the Decepticons, besides.... I'd highly doubt Megatron would condome Starscream seizing control.

Starscream is better at trying to get to be leader. You make him leader and the greatness dies.

How about Hasbro trademarks Gigatron and uses that? BOOM! New leader!

I'd like to see a smart Starscream (GF or C for example...) split off from Megs and have a renegade team of Decepticons. That way he can still be a leader but not put Megatron out of the picture.

nope

I vote no.

Starscream is what he is. A power hunger, resentful air commander. He lacks both the cunning and brute force to go up against a Prime.

I like Megs, if I had a choice besides Megs........ I would say Shockwave.

As I've been picking up Classics, I've imagined a story for the line.

It's set years after the end of American G1. Rodimus has regained some of his lost maturity. Goldbug has been restored as Bumblebee. The Decepticons are scattered and Galvatron is missing. The Autobots have perhaps become a bit soft in their peacetime upgrades except for Grimlock -- who everyone thinks of as paranoid.

The Combaticons rebuild Starscream (since his spark doesn't extinguish, I figure it's doable). However, Starscream turns on the Combaticons... and uses their scrap to rebuild sparkless drone versions of Skywarp and Thundercracker and the tank Megatron from the two pack. Using the dummy Megatron as a puppet leader, Starscream takes control of the Decepticons.

Meanwhile, Galvatron goes to the quintesson homeworld where he kidnaps and enslaves several quintessons. He forces them to strip away all traces of Unicron's technology while repairing and upgrading him. They succeed -- mostly. (The purple and orange bits on Classics Megatron are remnants of Galvatron which couldn't be removed.) And so the reborn Megatron sets out to destroy Starscream's puppet Megatron and defeat Optimus Prime.

This is one spin on how Starscream as leader could work and be interesting, IMO.

Technically "American" (more accurately "Anglophone") G1 can also be where:

- Hot Rod never became Rodimus Prime and is a Targetmaster warrior

- Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, now with Action Master goodness

- The Decepticons under Bludgeon's leadership, having been disgraced by their decisive defeat at Klo, claim to surrender and withdraw from the war.

- With the Autobot-Decepticon war seemingly over, the Autobots return to Cybertron to live in peace. During this time they also rebuild themselves into their G2 forms.

- Bludgeon and his Decepticons secretly begin construction of the ultimate weapon: Warworld.

...these would be events that occur in that post-G1 but pre-G2 period.
