hey I'm Kosher. and I'm used to calling the Hanukiah Menorahs.

old family habit for naming things I suppose.

still, mazel tov.

Another Kosher TFan...

Makes me wonder how many of us there are...???

As for me, well, my dad's parents have an actual menorah in their home and then break out the hannukiahs for Chanukah. My family just breaks them out for the holiday and we don't have a seven branched one in our home. Though I see them when I go to shul (which is not often)

I don't think i've been to shul in like 16 years or so.

right there with ya Maximo

I haven't been to temple in Zodd knows how long. reason was the rabbi at the time we stopped going was a drunken shmuck.

And Slaughtermaster, actually, the gifting thing on Chanukah is/was not an original tradition. It just sort of got identified as a "Jewish Christmas" and people starting giving gifts on the holiday.

Merry Christnukah!! :D

Capitalist societies aren't the only ones who have commercialised and cheapened religious holidays -- when I was in China earlier this year I noticed that Buddhism had become highly commercialised there. So I don't think it's got anything to do with capitalism or communism - it's just plain human greed. Of course, communism is supposed to negate human greed in theory, but in reality we know that doesn't happen (in fact, the one thing that prevents communism from succeeding is personal greed/self-interest, since communism is supposed to be about sacrificing individual needs for the greater good). ;)

Cool, didn't know how many Jews there were here on TFans (I knew I wasn't the only one).

i had a joke here, but i didn't want to offend anybody. :)
