Am I the only one to be deceived by the "classic" Devastator?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't mind getting this set if they had made a few cosmetic changes. For one, the colors don't seem to match up all that well. Second, they could have remolded the head to a more classic look. It doesn't help that he has a small head, so either way it will still look weird.

My biggest fear is that Hasbro will get lazy and of course more greedy and just start pumping all kinds of various repaints from past lines into the Classics line....along side those Classics figures getting repaints. Then, once the stores get clogged full of repaints the line will ultimately get canned for lack of sales or some Blot.

I've taken notice that Classics has been selling EXTREMELY well just about everywhere I've been. It would be a shame to see Hasbro shoot it in the head by polluting it with too many repaints.

Word to Hasbro....STICK WITH ORIGINAL FIGURES!!!!

I was never a big fan of Devastator, because he tended to end up in the lamest G1 episodes. Plus there's nothing inherently cool to me about a bunch of lame characters who turn into construction vehicles. Devastator himself made no sense at all as a "combined" version of the Constructicons. If he really had been a combination of all of them, his power would have been annoying people to death or something.

Aren't you the same person that said, "They're just toys," in the Movie Protoform toy thread?

I'm not getting the connection here. Are you saying that "not judging an unseen live-action movie based on two preview toys" and "not liking characters in an old cartoon" are the same thing?

Anyway, I think Energon was our series for latter-day combiners (sorry, "powerlinxers"). They may appear again at some point in the future, but who knows.

BTW at least with Power Rangers, you get all the zords in one package.

If you can be lenient to the movie toys, why can't you do the same to the Constructicons?

Because I was making two different points. I just don't happen to like the Constructicons; I never did. And that's what I was saying about them. With the movie toys, what I have been trying to point out is the fact that they are only preview toys and are not a good indicator of what to expect in the movie. To me, that's two separate issues.

I'm not to keen on those guys either. ^They will be an impulse buy....if I buy em

If it were just not liking those toys, and nothing more, it would be one thing. But a lot of people are acting like these two preview figures are somehow indicative of what we will see in the movie, or even in the actual toy line. And I think there's enough negativity surrounding the movie already without more ill-informed commentary about it, based on something that will in all likelihood have nothing to do with the movie.

I say "they're just toys" not to say "it doesn't matter" but to say "they're dramatically simplified and probably inaccurate renderings of what the TF protoforms will look like in the movie". People have been going on about their "alt modes" when they don't even have alt modes. They're protoforms, right? They fall to earth in these generic blobby shapes, scan some vehicle, get reformatted and then transform. Ba-da-bing.

They will change their tune when the real toys come out. At least the preview toys have good robot modes. Not only that, like in MTMTE, these pre-Earth robot modes have some of the same details that SS and Prime will have once they're on Earth.

I think the preview toys are all about the robot modes. As I said elsewhere, that's how they're being packaged, and that's how they're going to deliver that initial impression to people who see them in stores.

And really, who even knows how much the robot modes will resemble the movie bots? Not to get carried away or anything; I just mean that it's possible that these might be less colorful versions of their Earth robot modes, or maybe some kind of hybrid something that sort of generically looks like the character.
