Am I the only one to be deceived by the "classic" Devastator?

Recommended Posts

i for one didn't get this combiner not through choices of my own though. if i see this for £20 i will get it as if it retails for more than £30 i won't buy it. i would kitbash the black limbs into bonecrusher and mixmaster though.

i would quite like a superion repaint at some point i think but a new defensor is my dream combinerwise.

if you don't want this set, don't get it.

Would you have preferred the Micromaster construction six-former in Classic colors? Cause that would've been your only other option. It's a filler line. Be happy we get what we get.

No, the option I wanted is the same taken for Optimus, Bumblebee, Rodimus, Megatron, starscream, Astrotrain, Grimlock, Jetfire and Mirage: a new mold

Classics was only intended to fill the gap between the end of Cybertron. As said, we are lucky to be getting what we are with Classics.

To make an all new Devastator would require a little thing called MONEY. And if given teh option of an all new Devastator, or giving up AT LEAST half of the current classics line, I'd gladly settle for the repainted combiner over potentially loosing Bumblebee, or Grimlock, or Ramjet, or Jetfire, or Megatron, or Astrotrain or all of these.

Besides, in the past 4 years we've gotten no less than 3 major "homages" to Devastator (Micromasters, Universe repaint, Energon) plus this one in the thread. Not to mention the myriad of constructicon homages on Armada Scavenger, both Energon Demolishors, and several minicons.

Constructicons are done to death.

The FACT is, the Energon combiners are probably the last time we'll ever see 5 part combiners for a VERY long time, and as it stands, we'll probably only see the 3 we do have again through exclusives (Classics Devastator is a Walmart exclusive). We will certainly never see anything close to the custom Devastator pictured (by my estimates, it is a $70-$90 product), whereas the Energon figures end up about $40

My biggest fear is that Hasbro will get lazy and of course more greedy and just start pumping all kinds of various repaints from past lines into the Classics line....along side those Classics figures getting repaints. Then, once the stores get clogged full of repaints the line will ultimately get canned for lack of sales or some Blot.

Well said.

While there was great potential for many Armada/Energon/Cybertron figures to be repainted into great homages of G1 figures, those ideas should have been kept within their respective toylines. I'm just afraid that Hasbro will just repaint 1/2 of A/E/C into G1-ish color schemes, and release them as Classics... (Hardtop as Beachcomber, Shortround as Seaspray, Downshift as Wheeljack, etc...)

The end of the Classics line is "The Movie". That's happening regardless. Personally I'd love to see a bunch of A/E/C homages get the full G1 treatment. Why not?

And it's not like the shelves are currently clogged with Classics repaints... it's only within the past month that I've seen any Classics in Target/Wal-Mart/etc. with any regularity.

^ I still haven't seen them with regularity yet

I've taken notice that Classics has been selling EXTREMELY well just about everywhere I've been. It would be a shame to see Hasbro shoot it in the head by polluting it with too many repaints.

Word to Hasbro....STICK WITH ORIGINAL FIGURES!!!!

And they are just clogging the shelves here. Probably will see more movement closer to Christmas, but it's like everything's in a holding pattern right now.

Remember that this Devestator is going to be a freaking store exclusive. How many original molds are store exclusives? I've never seen a single one...

The last one I can think of was RiD Scourge...

Air Attack Optimus Primal

I hope you were joking about Scourge.

He was a repaint of Laser Prime

The last store exclusive I know of that was an unseen mold was Megatron Megabolt back in 2002, an unreleased Beast Machines figure that was exclusive to KB

Oh, and Supreme Air Attack Optimus PRimal for TRU

Ah, right!

Problem is those were designed and ready to make but Hasbro didn't have an outlet for them since the BM line had died. TRU and Kaybee gave them a place to sell those toys.

I was talking about (even if I didn't say it) completely new toys. From scratch.
