I don't think it's fair to criticize the show for the changes they made to the toys.

Yet so many people criticise the toys for any visual discrepancies to the show, which is just bullBlot because what do these people expect HasTak to do? Travel back in time and retrospectively tell themselves to re-design all the Transformers to be more "show accurate" (god I hate that term), only to return to the present to find that humanity has been enslaved by Wuzzles?! Way to go, jerks.

Well, they could have done show accurate rereleases later on, rather than all the crazy Fox Kids repaints they shovelled out. That would've been a start.

 

Also, most of Takara's figures were already more show accurate. I'm not sure if they were released after the show, or if Mainframe based their designs on the Japanese figures, but if you browse tfu.info you should see what I'm talking about.

Takara got the show later. It was an import for them, so they had time to say "Hmm...we can match the colors better" since they got show AND toys at the same time. In fact, it's a point proved by Terrorsaur (again). He's largely red and black/grey like on the show, with no purple or green...but few know that Japan ALSO got and sold original colors Terrorsaur.
