But I didn't just want the mold, I wanted the character. Universe Razorclaw wasn't in BW. Neither was purple Silverbolt or brown Depthcharge.

But IMO, they did look a lot better.

You can't honestly tell me that when you were watching BW you ever once thought to yourself, "Gee, Silverbolt looks okay, but he'd be really badass if he were purple with yellow lightning bolts!" I simply refuse to believe that.

Um, yeah, thanks for nailing the :ghey ness on the head! :tflaugh

I hate TFU Depth Charge's colours... I saw him in the shops and I thought someone had vomitted on him. IMHO the original Depth Charge had much gooder colours.

*Would kill for either anyway*

Heck, Only reason I have Transmetal megs is because I found Predacon at a car boot sale (£4 loose, lacking the minicons)

No, because the purple one didn't exist yet when I watched BW :P

But I never considered buying Silverbolt because I found him boring looking. Silverish gray with some black on the wings. I found him very dull. But when I saw the universe version I immediately went for it. I will gladly admit that the robotmode is a bit too purple IMO, but the altmode looks very good. Especially the deco on the wings (red with silver veins, fadinig into pruple which fades in to black outlining the edges of the wings and the tail) makes the original Silverbolt look boring in comparison. Now all I'll have to do is add some similar colors to the robot mode to make that also look good.

Personally, I feel that Hasbro did some great work on a lot the BW to universe figures.

The Beast Wars cartoon and the toys were what brought me back to Transformers. (Damn them!) The toys and transformations are so intricate. And somebody mentioned the transformations in the cartoon weren't like the toys? They seem very much accurate to the toys' transformation, more so than the G1 cartoon. The prices on ebay seem strange.....Some of them are cheaper than a few years ago, some more expensive. I got Tigerhawk a few years ago for $10. Has anybody had any problems with his white plastic though? Parts of his leg, tiger head and missile launcher are turning brownish. I don't think he was in the sun for too long.

Otherwise, great toys. I didn't even notice the little notches on Optimus Primal's arms did anything.

Here here! I agree. Depth Charge, Reptilion, Frostbite, Blastcharge, Skywarp, Obsidian, Superion and Micro-Devastator, Snarl, Fireflight, and Whirl are ALL better than any other version of their mold that I can think of the top of my head.

Okay maybe Rotorstorm beats Whirl, I dunno, I wasn't willing to drop the cash on 'im. I was actually hoping Universe would release more Transmetals/Transmetal 2s...I would have loved to see a Chromeless TM Scourge or Scarem.

Me too... my Scourge has tons of transmetal dandruff. :grr

ffej: I agree with you. The only transformation difference between the toys and show that I can think of off hand was Transmetal Rattrap's back portion spinning 180 degrees in the show.

And I agree that the Beast Wars cartoon did have better toy-accuracy than the G1 cartoon. That's right, I said toy accuracy, because the toys came first! The cartoons are supposed to market the toys and the show models are based on the figures.

Mainframe created their models by conducting a three dimensional scan of the toys, and then having their animators construct their show models based on these toy scans. The result is greater visual fidelity between the show models and the toys, particularly compared to the G1 cartoon.

Here's a comparison...

G1 cartoon toy accuracy:

It's interesting to note that the Japanese series had better toy accuracy than Sunbow's:
