20th Aniversary Prime, A Rip Off?!

Recommended Posts

A freind and I got together the other night to discuss the topic of the Hasbro 20th Anniversary Prime and the Takara Prime. He went and ordered the Takara release and waited for two weeks while I got mine which was the Hasbro release, a hell of alot quicker and a hell of alot cheaper. While he was waiting he was saying how cheap my 20th Anniversary Prime was and that it was nothing but a Takara rip off. Well it was I that had the last laugh on this very much talked about subject. His arrived in its nice pretty box with Optimus on the cover and right away he was gloating. "The box is even better!" bla bla bla. Then we finally compared the two. BOTH had the same metal parts, same features except for the stack's and battle marks. Then to top it off he had trouble with the Matrix fitting into the chest and lighting up, a problem that I've heard others have had with the Takara release. He also had some minor trouble with the feet popping off. For all the money he spent and for all his gloating he found out that there was little difference between the two, he even tried to talk me into switching the grey gun for my black one that came with mine! He even offered me money to have the black gun!!! My freind finally admitted that he should have just went with the Hasbro release but he had heard so much about the Takara version that he had to have it. But he said that if the only difference was the battle damage and the short stacks then he would have went the cheaper rout and went with Hasbro. Is Hasbros Prime a Takara rip off? Ask my freind that question now and he will tell you no way. But if you want a nice box, longer stacks and no battle damage then go with Takara otherwise these two Primes are the same, end of story. Me I'll stick with Hasbro's TF and heres why. They are more affordable and they are easier to get. I dont give a rats ass whether they are made of plastic with very little metal parts or not, I'm to old to play with mine anyway so I just pose them on my shelf standing around my 20th Anniversary Prime. So for those who are blowing their horns on how great Takaras versions are good for you. If you want to spend your money on Takaras TF because they have more metal parts then its your money to spend but dont go condeming Hasbro because they make their TF for the people who dont have money to flush down the toilet. Ask my freind, he found out that he did just that because it said TAKARA.

Yea well it my have been five months ago but the debate still rages on jack!!!

HELL WITH TAKARA, GIVE ME HASBRO ANYDAY.

They're both good and this argument (as with anything Takara vs Hasbro) has been driven into the ground by the fandom.

Be proud that you own one of the greatest toys out there and leave it at that. I'd question the loyalty of your friend if he's gonna lord it over you over some perceived (valid or not) quality issue.

*sigh...*

Hello!  And welcome to 5 months ago!  :tflaugh

I hate it when people say that. Some of us weren't forum members five months ago. Five months ago I didn't even know 20th Anniversary Prime existed. He can post whatever topic he wants. If you're not interested, just skip the topic!

Oh, and I agree. The differences between the two figures are severly over exagerrated. I can't see how it would be worth paying extra for the Takara one. Binaltech I can understand, athough I'm sticking with Aternators for the moment as well.

The short stacks do annoy me, but I wouldn't pay extra and take the risk of having no back-up service, just to get longer stacks. :tflaugh

Oh, and someone said you could get long stacks from somewhere to replace the short one's, but he's yet to back up this claim with any more info.

That's pretty harsh man, especially when we're talking about 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime, who is hardly 'cheap see-through plastic crap'. It's not a very well constructed argument you offer bro'.

yeah, but then again, people like that never have a well constructed argument.

The toys themselves don't differ too much in price. I could have bought any one of those for about the sam (over)price. I choose Takara. Now it turns out I won a pic contest, and I'm getting both for free.

Anyway, the Takara isn't more expensive, it is the shipping that is. You pay extra for shipping. So don't blame it on the toys or their makers.
