20th Aniversary Prime, A Rip Off?!

Recommended Posts

A black, correct, rifle always supercedes long smokestacks.

Takara's Prime may be more expensive because of shipping charges, but it's still more expensive than Habro's.

Guess what? Takara makes TF toys for Japanese customers to buy, not solely for the occasional nerd who thinks Takara is superior.

Well, I also had the problem with one of the feet wanting to come off. I have no idea if that's a Takara problem or just the mold in general. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

As it is, I have a bias towards the Takara end of things. However, given the exact same color scheme, materials quality (I favor die-cast above plastic any day - most "giant robot" collectors do - I'm not just a Transformers fan), and mold, I will choose Hasbro over Takara. Why? Price. Otherwise, I'll go with the Takara version. The Japanese just seem to get things "right" more often in regards to toys.

Therefore, I went with the Takara Masterpiece Convoy.

I bet if Takara had painted the Battle Damage on Prime, and Hasbro hadn't, everybody would be saying how great the battle damage was and how the Hasbro one was crap because it didn't have battle damage. :tflaugh

Oh, and the foot problem is universal. It's just a ball-joint thing. Both Primes have the occasional foot issue.

actually, I have found the hasbro prime to be much cheaper than the takara version. I can walk into a walmart or target, and pick him up for around $65-$70. I've been seeing the takara prime go for $98-$119 on the net. and that's before shipping.

the keyword is TRAILER! takara has a cardboard trailer so he doesn't look naked in truck mode. whereas hasbro's has it in base mode where the crane thingy doesn't even stick up so it hardly looks good. plus America's pansy government forbade hasbro from lnegthening the smokestacks and hasbro didn;t even take the time to translate the history booklet!. hasbro's instructions suck when compared with takara's detailed ones. the battle damage, however, is good because of those god awful cracks on prime. it kinda makes me wonder. if convoy didn;t have the cracks, would hasbro have added the burn marks? the feet problem is with my hasbro prime too. but his upper leg joints snapped leaving his legs limp. but hasbro will exchange. (i emailed them) so that all should be fine.

you are exactly right about the battle damage, but I've never had any problems with either of his feet.

whoopdy-flippin-do! Ooh, a cardboard trailer, I'm sure that looks great on a diecast/plastic semi :roll

First of all I didnt start my post to rehash the subject of Takara vs Hasbro.
No, but you had to see it coming.
If it werent for Habro we may not have even had TF so take that Takara fans!!! :tflaugh

SCREW TAKARA, GIVE ME HASBRO.

Great. That really doesn't help keep this from turning into a "VS" thread.

Damn straight. A cardboard trailer made up of the folded toy box is hardly something to get excited about.

I agree about the battle damage too. If it were the other way around, the Takara lovers would be damning Hasbro for not doing to their verion of Prime.

Is it me or dose "master piecs" mean, well uh yeah........

imho he looks better whith out the BD.

He does look better without it, but the battle damage, if you can call a few light black marks "battle damage", is hardly something to get upset about.

I think that both Hasbro's has the lesser flaw though. Sure, the short smokestacks are annoying, but at least Hasbro's comes with a gun that's the right color. I find it puzzling as to how Takara can get everything else right, but make Prime's gun gray. At least Hasbro has safety laws as the excuse for short smokestacks. Takara has no reason to make the gun gray.
