I've realized the horrible truth about the G1 cartoon.

Have I ever said otherwise?

I agree. Overall, the G1 cartoon is pretty goofy. Hence why the G1 comics has always been the sustain source of G1 canon.

You implied it

The Cartoon is canon to Beast Wars.

....From what I've read he has never really said it wasn't. Your making something out of nothing right now.

The humor in G1 was subtle, IMO.

I like how in the 1st episode, while Cliffjumper and Hound were watching the Decepticons. Scene turns and shows the Decepticons. Back to the Autobots, and Cliffjumper and a ridiculously big gun just chilling there, like its nothing.

That part was classic to me.

i dunno...it had funny aspects, yes, but nothing as silly as those looney tunes. whatever lame comedy that came from it seems to be either due to poor writing/acting or was for the comic relief of the show. The toons that i have seen had a seriousness to it that was low key, but dark.

:pfx

Mic Sounders XIII is right.

And Beast Wars derives G1 canon from BOTH the cartoon and comics. I've already cited the G1 comic references several times. (-_-) Even if you go by the Universe retcon - the retcon occured AFTER the Beast Wars show was written, which means that at the time, the writers were still using the comics as a canonical source for their writing material.

In effect, what has happened is this - Beast Wars canonical G1 sources come from both cartoon and comics. Universe has since retconned the G1 cartoon to include elements from the G1 comics. This still means that G1 comic canon was distilled into Beast Wars - whether it was via a retconned cartoon continuity or otherwise.
