SDCC - Transformers Titanium Interview

Recommended Posts

TFormers.com caught up with Mark Boudreux, a 30-year veteran designer of boys toys at Hasbro about the expansion of the Titanium line into Transformers. Mark gives us the story on the newest Transformers line that was originally started as a Star Wars line. Titanium produces 3" and 6" figures that complement the main Transformers toy line. Its no surprise that key to the new line's success is its partnership with Don Figueroa, best known as the artist for Transformer comics by IDW. Read on for all the details on these exciting new Transformers.

i dont want to say this but dons an awsome comic artist but his toy designs are eather badly implemented or thier just not all that good cuz so far roddie is the only one thats standing out as good to me *waits for incoming burning and soiled rags*

Well that's what happens when the Star Wars team tries to tackle Transformers. There are a few places that they really need to work on like articulation (I've hear WW Prime's arms are connected to the wheels so they can't hold a pose and his limbs tend to fall off easily) and their over all use of diecast (G1 did it right, Binaltech does it right, but these guys are a little too bricky and lumpy and their paint is inconsistent). Seems like if the Transformers team tried to do these they would have been able to make proper joints and get the most out of the diecast details.

I agree. In Don's defence though from what I've read he's being severely limited as to what he can and can not do in this line. As said in the interview he basically has to design these things so there the same size, and price point. Not to mention transform as one piece. Rodimus looks fantastic as a one piece former but Rid Prime looks like absolute crap. It's a 6" Titanium figure yes but what sort of worked for a Spychanger isn't workiing here. Primal is also a vast disappointment.

Of all the designs I've seen implimented in this line WW Prime, Rodimus, and Scourge stand out to be the strongest. The rest are altogether unexciting.

As for Megatron. Exactly which GIjoe comic did he reference for that horrid design. Sure as hell wasn't the G2 Marvel series. That would have rocked if they had got it right.

We're able to choose from any segment of the Transformers. Wheatear in the future, it might be Beast Machines, or G1. It can be from any. We're not restricted to any series at all. We can go into the comic books. We have War Within. Optimus Prime is from War Within. Thundercracker is from War Within. The Megatron is from one of the GI Joe comics.

HECK YEAH

Bring on the BM and WWII toys!!! :boogie

So he essentially designs a Deluxe-sized figure. Oooo, how restrictive. :roll

World War 2?

i sorta agree after cybertron/GF deluxes like noise-maze and autovolt thier is little to say that making a very posable figure in that size isnt posible. and since this is a collecters line with a 50% higher price tag i think asking for that standerd isnt asking for much

you guys are all nuts.  Those new cans are incredible.  I mean you are all entitlted to your opinions and stuff but MAN these things (along with classic) actually have me excited about collecting again.

you know, I mightl ike these better if Classics hadn't come around.

I mean, TT is a fan oriented line, much like how Classics is... and yet, they're so different. It's uncanny. One seems like it was pushed out the door one or two revisions early, while the other looks so totally pwntastic I cannot sum up its pwningness in words.

i'm still buying that RP, though. Just never transforming it.

well, him and A. maybe RID prime, B. WW Prime and C. The new Megs.

that new megs just looks so evil and dark and stuff.
