Could you live without TF's and a TF fix?

Recommended Posts

Of course, and in fact I see it happening in the future. As things progress in my life, I will end up leaving everything behind.

Everyone could live without them. I mean, if they weren't created, we wouldn't know about them, therefore, we'd not know they existed.

TFs may be a religion to some people, so this question isn't as strange as it seems. I think if TFs were to be buried back in 1996 instead of being revived,  I wouldn't have missed it. I wouldn't miss it now if it stopped where it is now.

I personally dont really have any/ VERY small amount of collectibles (myclone galvatron)

I seem to be getting by, i've always wanted to express my opinions about the line and its characters, and this board and all the other tf fan sites out there have kept my interest alive.

I love the kitbashes, first topic i click on when i log onto TFans; but i own none of the toys

I gave all my Beast Wars (first introduction to transformers) away to my cousin about 3-4 years ago and now it pains me to see them when i go visit (especially optimal optimus, megatron, rampage etc.)

I need tfs, they're one of my main interests aside from soccer, the whole concept is great and it just makes me happy, i really enjoy the whole mythos and love hearing the feedback from the fans

GO TRANSFORMERS!!!

I don't think I could, its hard, I need a new fix and when I don't get one, I think about them non stop, i.e MP Starscream, I'm going crazy here knowing it'll be another 4 months or so until I can get one.  Actually no, I could, I go in phases where I'm really into them and then others where its more casual.  Would I want to though?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

I definetely can live without them, but life will be extremely boring, like wat lots of u said, i ll probably just start another hobby.....

I definitely could, and have been weighing for the past couple of months whether or not to get rid of most of my collection.

Even if I did, I'd just end up spending money on my other hobbies- model rocketry and my R/C truck. In fact, before coming to TFans, my TF collecting waxed and waned as I would be involved more heavily in one of the other two.

Wow, good question.

1993-1996

The G2 years was when my Transfandom dipped to its all-time low. In my heart, I still liked Transformers - but my collecting of TFs nearly halted. Even now, my entire G2 collection consists of only 24 Transformers, about half a dozen of which are really G1.5. But during my off years, I still needed to find something similar to latch onto -- I found Robotech... from Robotech, which I then abandoned for Macross, MOSPEADA, Dragonball Z (Zed) et al., and from there, I became an animé fan (Robotech isn't animé). My animé fandom really drove my desire to learn Japanese. This led me to living in Japan as a university student... and it was during this time that Beast Wars came out and got me hooked right back into Transformers again. I started talking with some of the fans from alt.toys.transformers and became a member of Austrans (now OzFormers) all before ever returning to Australia!

But even at the height of my animé obsession, I never gave up Transformers -- although during the years between 1993-1996 I had stopped displaying my TFs on my shelves (which had then made way for my incredibly huge animé video collection - which I gave away after BW came out btw), I kept all my old Transformers in boxes instead.

Even though these years represented the lowest point of my Transfandom, I'd never left the fandom. 24 G2 figures and a still incomplete collection of G2 comics (I'm missing the early issues) may not be much, but it shows that I never lost interest in the franchise, even if my primary hobby had shifted.

I cannot see that happening again, but even if it did (i.e.: I found a new primary hobby), Transformers will always be a significant hobby for me...

Well I stopped collecting TF's in the mid 90s, my abusive ex got me back into them, part of her attempt to stop me from knowing what she was really up to with her father and how selfish she is.  Now I collect them for no reason, the collection keeps going but I feel little from it.

I admire the engineering and imagination that goes into them and some TF's are like little works of art, Cyb Downshift and MP Prime for example to name but a few.

But if I hadn't been forced back to collecting them, I would live without them.  I've got my own personal hobbies, books, toy and model cars that my dad got me into when I was 8 months old back in 1979, beating my disability and proving that I'm of some worth.  TF's are just a very small diversion, nothing more.  If they were to suddenly end, I would miss them for a short while and then not be bothered.

They're only toys after all, very good toys, but toys none the less.
