If you are a Binaltech collector...

They do have the flaw of paint flaking off if they are transformerd often

No they don't. Only BT-01 Smokescreen had that problem - every BT since then has seen Takara use increasingly resiliant chip-resistant paints (I'd know... I play with my toys, so my BTs have seen a bit of action ;))

IMHO, BTs are better value for money. Alt Prime doesn't appeal to me, so if BT Ginrai doesn't become a reality, I'm not going to bother with Alt Prime. The Mirage design looks nice, so if TakaraTomy don't release a BT Liger, I will get an Alt Mirage mostly because there'd be no other choice besides not having the toy at all.

I'm going to take it in a case-by-case basis. If the Alternator looks crappy to me, like Alt Prime, then I'll pass, but if it appeals to me, like Mirage, then I'll grab it.

Quality must have gone down with the later BTs then.  alert has a bit of wear on his doors. Sunstreaker has some on his hood. My second BT was yellow Tracks (Red Meister is still in his package). I transformed him a few times and he seems OK. After seeing some of those scratches from alert and Sunstreaker, I decided against purchasing Broadblast.

I go or Alts because for me anyway they're HALF the price!

Guess no one told that toys that then.

My Red alert and Broadblast were fine, but my Skids was slightly chipped when I recieved him and my Sunstreaker was horribly chipped straight out of the box too.

Those are BT Asterisks, and yes, I agree that the quality of the BTAs is not on par with the BTs.

josh: if your BTs/BTAs are chipped from the box, then it's a case of poor quality control. My Skids is fine - my BTAs have no chipping problem, but the paints do feel and look inferior to most BTs, and there are other problems with the BTAs aside from the paint apps. The WRX and Dodge Viper BT moulds have been overused and the they are obviously degrading.

If you ever have a QC problem with a Japanese TF, call Takara. I find their customer support to be impeccable.

Btw, Alt prices vary. A lot of them have dropped in price, but here, the RRP (so that excludes sales) of Alternators is nearly the same as the RRP of BTs. Usually only cheaper by $10. So, when comparing Australian RRPs of Alts against the RRP of BTs, BTs are better value for money IMO.

I got Alt Wheeljack for AU$45, which is considered cheap for a Alt here. I paid 5229JPY for BT Wheeljack. IMHO, although my BT Wheeljack cost me AU$18 (approx US$13 or 7GBP) more, the BT is better value for money.

Oh, and if you're wondering why I have both versions, it's because I intend to repaint Alt Wheeljack into an Alternator Slicer. ;)

IIRC Hasbro (or maybe it was Archer himself) said that Alts with the same level of Diecast as a BTs ould cost $5.00 more than current retail price.  So why did BTs cost so much more??

I'm happy enough to go to Alts now. So long as they manage to make sure the different panels match in color (unlike Windcharger)

Either you're lucky...  or i really pissed off a  Gypsy.

I gotta say....  my alert chipped like crazy. (Police) Prowl came straight out of the box with about a dozen tiny chips in the paint. Sunstreaker has a nasty chip too.

I throw and slam my BTs around when I play with them (hey, they're at war!)

I once dropped BT Dead End an asphalt footpath and it was unscathed.

Maybe Primus just likes me. :P

The only BT I plan on getting is BTA alert.  Just for the sake of giving Prowl a proper body to be with his brothers Bluestreak (It'll be a cold day in hell before I call him Silverstreak, screw copyright laws), and Smokescreen.

And as for alert, well, I'm just going to pick up an extra Meister (the name isn't so bad, but I'll be calling him Jazz), and removing the visor and making his head red and possibly modding the overall shape to give him a proper Red alert look.

I've got more Alts. than BT's so far, it usually depends on budget and what I can find first.  I like both lines, they have their good and bad points.

-Chuckles

I'll be honest in that I find the Binaltech line much better for the use of die-castings. To me this makes a much higher quality toy (I really had to think about using that three letter word), simply as it provides a considerable robustness to them.

That to me makes me feel like I have value for money. I have one Alt (Bluestreak - I refuse to acknowledge any other name) and while cool compared to Wheeljack, Tracks (in blue), and Jazz (white and reprolabeled) he seems naff and cheapy.

I will be getting the Alt Prime but I know that he will also suffer the same fate of an all plastic body.

As for the repaints and head swapping (ok that's all Wheeljack is, but I couldn't get on with Grimlock being a car, a dinobot or recently a tank he will always be) I think that's just a way to keep interest without innovation.

Skids was such a missed oppertunity for Ironhide, we all know that, so what I guess we want now is BinALTech accuracy but covering other things MP03 may give us a taste of that, so we can hope that Neo G1 will give us even more.
