Sweet Alt Prime Gallery

Kibble hanging off the back is the price you pay for extremely realistic alt modes and highly "G1 toon accurate" robot modes.

I'm sorry, but this figure has absolutley NO G1 toon accurateness to it at all.

Unless of course you paint it black and call it Trailbreaker.

But they didn't.

It would still suck horrifically if it did, but at least there would have been a reason, excuse, whatever.

I get so tired of this.  Pretty much every Alternator has a huge amount of kibble hanging off the back.  Check these links out and tell me if Alt. OP looks any worse.

In my opinion it does look worse than most for several reasons.

First is the fact that it looks equally bad from the front and side toos, especially the shoulders and lower legs.

Second is the fact that whilst *most* have at least one of these kibble problems (shoulder things, doors, seats, roof, legs etc), this mold has all of them.

It's like a "worst of" figure, a represntation of every problem the Alts have.

And finally there's the fact that it didn't have to look that bad, even with a near identical transformation.

Extendable legs and a little more attention to the shoulders would have made the world of difference to this figure, and you can see that at a glance.

Whether it is or not, it looks half finished.

Well with all the haters out there, it'll be that much easier for the people that DO like it to get it.

Don't let em fool you. Every body's Starscreaming, but Prime will not be a shelf warmer till Mirage comes out.

Ya that's the unfortunate part about all the 'haters', they'll still buy the bloody thing anyway.  :roll

Most of the Alternators are G1 Toon accurate, but obviously Prime cannot be, as a tractor trailer is not a Dodge Truck.  I thought that would pretty much go without saying.  After all, Shockblast isn't a 100% accurate version of G1 toon Shockwave, but that's because the alt mode is a car, not a gun.  Maybe toon accurate is a bad term to use for the Alt line, I'd say G1 toon inspired would be a better choice.  Looking at Tracks, Hound, etc. you can tell they were clearly modelled after the G1 toon.

Yeah, Toon inspired is better.......for the first molds any way. When you start getting to Ravage, Swerve, Wheeljack and Rollbar, things get crazy

The toon-inspired, not toon accurate idea is a good compromise, and I think it describes the situation very well.

But either way, I agree w/ joshlowe again. Prime looks like he has way too much kibble for a current Alt. The guy has his freaking seats hanging off his forearms and a truck bed for legs w/ little effort to make them look like legs. I find it hard to believe that is the best solution they could come up w/. Plus when you do look from the sides and back, it just looks like you just took a Ram and stood it up on its tailgate. I personally don't get any impression like that from any of the other Alts, and that is why many people have likened Prime to a Spychanger.

Bottom line, they could have done much better w/ this mold and w/ this character. But to those that like him, then that's great, I am sure you will enjoy hunting for him and adding him to your collection (no sarcasm is intended there).

My point exactly.

Prime was the least restricted of the Alts.

Where they were tied by characters like Streak or Meister, either desiring or requiring a toon accurate/inspired appearance, Prime was a clean slate.

They didn't have to take any likeness other than his head into consideration, which means there is not really the same excuse for him as there is for the others.

Another case of this would be the upcoming Rumble.

But, although popular, Rumble is no Prime, he doesn't get the instant sales pn teh same level.

So they actually put effort in to his design.

Granted we haven't seen the finished product yet, but the sketch has a lot more promise and creatuive design than this mold ever had.

The only way the G1 accuracy/inspiration comes into it on this figure is if we believe it was intended to be Trailbreaker.

And if that is true, it's once again a case of the company using a name to sell the figure because not even they have faith in the figure on it's own merits.

And that says far more about it's quality, or lack of, than any fan's Starscreaming ever could.

Ya that's the unfortunate part about all the 'haters', they'll still buy the bloody thing anyway.  :roll

*Is proud to never have bought a mold he hasn't liked or hasn't been able to do something with.*

From a quick glance all I can see is people who don't own the toy slating it. I reserved my opinion until I had it in-hand & I think it's an awesome mold. If you own it & don't like it - fair one. If you've only seen pics on the web -  :stfu

you missed me at quick glance. i waited until i had him in hand to post- and like i said, probably my least favorite mold- but i agree, wait until you have him. i mean it's prime- there's no real good reason not grab him if you can, but it's a 50/50 shot as whether he's a bot you'll like.
