I think what makes any series good is what these series didn't do. Giving off much more information and not some kind of generic clone to G1 that just roles on and gives off clues. This would make Transformers, THE WHOLE PICTURE stronger, but still trying to make something new. Its done the same way all series are down today, but from another angle.

I just can't stand the always you ahve to do something new "wholeness wise" that you have to do and following. I didn't like the original movie and I think it should of never been made. What if G1 was still continued after G1 as G1? Would that be amazing?

If so, Unicron would of had more meaning maybe in todays series... But hell you need him right? Whatever... :tdown

I'm, uh...just gonna nod my head and back away slowly now...

i'm not japanese, but i didn't like beast wars just kuz... well it just didn't feel like transformers, and the crappy all cg thing sucked... and i wasn't fealing the beast formers... and yea you get the picture, i just didn't like it.

Your posts make my brain hurt.

seems BM and BW only popular in US and Euro

My theory?

It was different.

Look at EVERY piece of Transformers television to come from Japan.  Compare it to Beast Wars.

There was no combining(who wound up making it to BW2?  That's right, Magnaboss and Tripledacus!).

The bad guys(debatedly) were capable. Compare the various Preds over three seasons to the King Poseidon pirates(another combiner!) or so.

The hero was flawed.  This is a big one.  Primal compared to Big Convoy, Star Saber, and even Metalhawk/Ginrai.

It LOOKED different.  Every show from Japan before or since uses Cel or (badly) done CG.

It was dumbed down too much.  Say what you will about Japanese children being smarter or treated better, BW was dubbed very differently.  See also the way the characters were treated in BW2 and Car Robots.

But that's just my theory...

I agree with terrorcon Blot and I go as far as saying Japanese audiences are too xenophobic and dislke anything outside their tried and dested formulae.

(1) Beast Wars was always intended to tie in with G1 from the get-go. This was stated by the show's producer in a magazine interview before the show even aired. BW writers spoke with us fans on the alt.toys.transformers newsgroup to garner feedback and advice. This is why the G1 references were done so well, and also why the show is littered with fan references: Wonko the Sane, Sub-Sector Hooks, Starbase Rugby, coordinates M-Sipher, code A-T-T (alt-toys-transformers) etc... I could spend a half a day pointing out all the Transfandom references in the show.  :P

(2) Beast Wars Metals was very poorly dubbed. The Japanese dub dumbed down the show... the Japanese fandom hated the dubs. I've watched the dubs... in fact, I watched Beast Wars dubbed in Japanese long before I watched it in English. Now I only watch it in English - I prefer to watch shows and movies in their original intended language. Still... Convoy sounds damn hot when being voiced by Koyasu Takehito... (and I'm a straight male!!) :D

Arguably the sexiest TF voice actor: Koyasu Takehito of Weiss Kreuz

(3) The BW Metals toyline was not popular with Japanese fans. The reason for this has nothing to do with the show - according to Japanese fans whom I've spoken with, it was because Japanese fans considered Transmetals and Fuzors to be poor robots in disguise. Let's face it, they are. Transmetals and Fuzors aren't fooling anybody. This is why Beast Wars Neo, released in the same year as BW Metals, was a far more successful toyline. Unlike BW Metals, BW Neo figures are effectively convincing robots in disguise - they transform into beasts. Not robotic beasts or The Wuzzles. :P

In other words - it came down to a difference in fan taste.
