Easy reason why Japanese fans didn't like...

Recommended Posts

Never knew Spongebob existed for that long. He has only been popular here recently. And quite honestly I do not think it will last.

Dubbed stuff rarely ever work. "Das Boot" in English will make one vomit even though it is one of the best movies ever.

So the same goes for Transformers. I actually watched Headmasters in Japanese becuase it was more tolerable.

I think they should just make seperate shows in both Japan and the US. People in the US and Europe generally dislike the Japanese cartoons and the other way around. So why not avoid that whole problem.

because said shows are popular with children in the US, the main audience TFs in the first place? Duh?

spongebob is gonna be around for a long time... I don't see him becoming nickelodean's Mickey Mouse, but he'll be around until at leasty 2009.

under his own power

Not a chance in hell. I remember the episode that said it. He got catapulted by the primitives. One, how the hell did he get catapulted ito space and two, your telling me he flew who knows how far to get to the time warp, then did the same to get to cybertron, thats probable a few light years. Not a snowball's chance in guam. He was there cause he's popular and BM hadn't any real comic character

Remember that BW takes place four million years in the past, he had time.

i want to know who said he flew back on his own. i know its goki and xbob saying so, but come on. youre both saying he flew from prehistoric earth to future cybertron over the coarse of 4 million years or more? thats the weakest friggin explanation ever. i could have come up with that. then i would have thought, that was stupid, then put more thought into it.

It's in BM...

.............

.....................

............... oh yeah........................ redface'd X infinity...

anyway it's supposed to be pathetic, Waspinator is like the biggest cosmic joke in the TF universe (watch the final episode of BM for further details).

My theory?

It was different.

Look at EVERY piece of Transformers television to come from Japan.  Compare it to Beast Wars.

There was no combining(who wound up making it to BW2?  That's right, Magnaboss and Tripledacus!).

The bad guys(debatedly) were capable. Compare the various Preds over three seasons to the King Poseidon pirates(another combiner!) or so.

The hero was flawed.  This is a big one.  Primal compared to Big Convoy, Star Saber, and even Metalhawk/Ginrai.

It LOOKED different.  Every show from Japan before or since uses Cel or (badly) done CG.

It was dumbed down too much.  Say what you will about Japanese children being smarter or treated better, BW was dubbed very differently.  See also the way the characters were treated in BW2 and Car Robots.

But that's just my theory...

That sounds about right.

Not enough GOTTA CATCH EM ALL

Never liked Mickey Mouse either. He is just a rip-off of Oswald anyways. I do not even know why they call him a mouse since he is a filthy rat for stealing Oswald's career.  :tdown

Every now and then there is a kids show that scores big. First it was Pokemon, then Yu-Gi-Oh! and now Spongebob. There will be a new fling soon.

Transformers will bury them all.  :tfevil If the next show is actually good, that is.  :tftongue

There's a difference between a toy craze (Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!) and a great show (Spongebob). The first two are sustained by the merchandise (card game stuff, etc), the last one is sustained by the program.

And I don't know of a single adult who could stand to watch a single episode of Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh!

Really? I figure there'd be alot of single adults that watch it. XP

Although, to be fair..I actually watch Yu-Gi-Oh and I'm 23. ^_^;; (Although, defining me as an adult is questionable. XP) I don't watch the Pokemon TV series or Spongebob, though.

The Pokemon movies are sometimes a neat watch, cause the animation crew is tons different.

Anywho, I've always heard that Takara didn't like the idea of Beast Wars..so they just brought it over grudgingly. Perhaps the quality of the Japanese dubbing was a reflection of this?

I think the reason why the recent Transformers shows have been bad for the US, is on account of Terry Klassen. He has only done like TWO..maybe three impressive voice overs since Dragon Ball Z..(and every thing else was just "Krillin". All the f'ing time. Even his "Sparkplug" in Armada was Krillin! ) and his adaptive writing was always crap.

Aoi

My brother watches Yu-Gi-Oh! but I think that is one of the more questionable things he does. Like smoking.  :tftongue

Pokemon was actually an ok cartoon. Saw a few episodes and they were tolarable. The other shows are  :tfpuke

Yu-Gi-Oh! is just plain awful and Spongebob is just not my taste. Where are good shows such as Life With Louie?

I thought Lois was too preachy.....I miss Darkwing Duck myself. But now I'm an avid anime fan so.

I saw the BWII movie and I thought it wasn't too bad? The same goes for Victory. I think its less to do with where its made and more to do with how its made

Oswald? was this Oswald around in 1923?
