Easy reason why Japanese fans didn't like...

Recommended Posts

But if BW was so hated in Japan, why have the two leaders represent half of their firt batch of new molds for the Japan-only RM line?  Heck, the fact that all of the inaugural new RM molds were characters from western TF shows leads me to believe that the Japanese prefer our shows to theirs.

I agree with that last paragraph. If Beast Wars was a flop, then why have so many different versions of Optimus Primal and why make the Beast War characters into figure in the Robot Masters line? Something doesn't add up.

I think Goki was saying that the first season of BW was popular in Japan, but they didn't like fuzors or transmetals.

Beast Wars was ingenious because of its deep dialogue and intricate plot.  Most of Beast Wars' WOW factor comes from the awesome job of the show's writers.  It's hard for that level of sophistication to come through in translation.  It's the same reason we hate some of the newer Japanese TF shows, like RiD, Armada, and Energon- because the writing just isn't the same.  It's the same way in both directions- the deep plot and spoken (not physical) humor are both lost in translation.

That's not why I hate them. I actually rather like Armada(for Starscream mostly) and Cybertron(Scourge). I hate energon because it looks dumb, has no real plot, no real continuity, they ruined my starscream and scorponok....and ..him

Beast Wars and Beast Machines were the best shows ever. (Followed by G1 but that is my opinion.)

I agree about Beast Wars(can't decide wether I like it or G1 better) but I was deeply, deeply disappointed in Beast Machines. Its like the Devil May Cry 2 of transformers. The first was fantastic, took all the elements and blended them with expertise. In the sequel, they took the original and twicked it in ways it must not be tweaked. Add ridiculous plot twists and imcomprehensible character changes and your fairly screwed. Also, where the hell did Waspinator come from?????? I love him put, What the hell??????

Waspy flew to Cybertron under his own power

Not a chance in hell. I remember the episode that said it. He got catapulted by the primitives. One, how the hell did he get catapulted ito space and two, your telling me he flew who knows how far to get to the time warp, then did the same to get to cybertron, thats probable a few light years. Not a snowball's chance in guam. He was there cause he's popular and BM hadn't any real comic character

I was never a huge BW or BM fan,  but it beats the hell out of that Anime crap. :Dc

[right)

Remember that BW takes place four million years in the past, he had time.

X-BoB speaks true.

Also, it seems to me that some people here are adament in presenting the Japanese fandom's view... my question is, what is the source of this information?

How many of you actively communicate with Japanese fans?

I've been communicating with the Japanese fandom for 9 years now... boards which I have frequented in this time include:

+ Transformers-Net - the first Japanese forum hosted by Naonori Naito's old site... no longer in existence.

+ Transformers United Board - hosted by Dr Sigma's Lab

+ Nerima Radish Brothers - formerly the Secret Deep Space HQ board

+ Ironhide's Home - I'm still active on this board. I no longer frequent any other Japanese TF board.

And there are many other Japanese TF boards out there. It just seems to me that a lot of these conjectures are largely baseless invented speculation, rather than informed opinions. :/ Feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong - if so, please site your sources... even if it's something as simple as stating that you've also spoken to a group of Japanese fans yourself.

Above: Tiger Convoy (up the back centre with the baseball cap) was a Japanese Transfan whom I'd befriended on the Transformers-Net board, and came to visit me in Sydney. This photo was taken in Melbourne where Tiger Convoy, dirge (another Sydney fan) and I met with other Transfans from Melbourne and Adelaide in 2001.

It's not because it's anime that it's bad. Please don't sound ignorant and generalize like that.
