The Future Of Transformers ?

My thoughts:

1) Scale Issues!!! Err... yeah, scale issues! There should be something like 3 different (rough) "scales" of toys to stop the annoying inconsistancies! eg: Armorhide's a semi-truck and Ransack's a motorcycle, yet they're the same size!?! You could keep the same "size-classes" on the package, but lump each toy into one of 3 "scale-classes" so that they look good together. They wouldn't have to be Alternator 1:24 exact scales, just rough Small, Medium & Large Scales.

Something similar to most of the G1 toys you mean. Yes , they didn't do it correctly all the time, but for the most part alot of the toys were semi to scale.

They did that properly in G1? You mean a Datsun Z is bigger than an A-10? And a micro-cassette recorder is bigger than both of them?

There were some scale consistencies, but plenty of problems. Sure all the Autobot cars were in a similar scale, but then all the deluxe cars they make now are a similar scale.

Enforcing a scale, even an approximate one, would be too limiting to a toyline. There are lots of basics, if a scale is enforced they'd have to ALL be motorcyles. Scale may be nice in theory, but it's not very feasible for a full toyline.

Approximate Cybertron new mold numbers per price point:

Supreme: 2

Leader: 3

Ultra: 5

Voyager: 9

Deluxe: 13

Basic: 14

Go ahead, try to make a list of 14 different basic scale alt modes balanced with the smaller numbers of larger sizes.

Couldn't have said it better myself (well except for maybe not using the British spelling for colors/colours (just kidding)).

Best points I have seen in quite some time. I agree 100% w/ all of it.  :thumb

Cheers Dude!  :thumb

(Notice I didn't "correct" Armourhide!  :tflaugh )

Read the highlighted bit Dude!

eg: In G1, The cars, Prime, etc would be one scale. Soundwave, Megs, etc would be another scale. The Seeker Jets, Mini-cars (some of), etc would be another scale.

I could easily lump all the cybertron toys into 3 or 4 different scale-classes (maybe), but I can't be asked right now.

If you're gonna criticise my suggestions, please READ THEM first!  :roll

the lipsync is just awful in GF too...

meh, looked fine to me, at least the voices fit the characters and the VA's did a great job of conveying feelings, something most american VA's lack.  not saying that the japanses are the end all be all of voice acting, but they seem to do a better job of it.  hence the reason most dubbed anime sucks, that and they're constantly americanising the plot lines.

I don't think it is the VA causing the problems. They are using the script and the direction that they are given. I really doubt that many of them want to use crappy accents and say cheesy lines that were translated from Japanese.

the gf script wasn't anywhere near as cheesy as cybertrons script, at least from the few eps of cybertron i watched, thundercracker is a whining buffoon, at least in gf he was a smart ass, but we've all got opinions ^_^

not to mention that they're not really acting... since the animation came first, they're just mimicking something else. Which I'm sure is not all that rewarding of an experience.

this goes in part with c717905's post but it's easier to answer these two together as apposed to repeating myself.... the way you make your post it's as if anybody could be a va and thats just not true.  it's alot tougher to voice act as opposed to normal acting.  you have to adjust your voice to fit the characters personality, the animation might be done, but you have to bring that character across and make them beleivable to your audiance.  the character becomes an extension of yourself.  a good voice actor can generaly take a bad script (not too bad) and make it decent, even good by the way they create their character.  like i said up top, this is why most english dubbed anime suffers so horribly and why the majority of anime fans prefer subtitles as apposed to dubbing.  the companies just pick up any old actor and throw them in the studio so you get a subpar job.  that and the americaninsing of scripts ruin alot of good anime.  a voice actor acts, but they can only do so much, i don't think a whole lot could have been done with the script they where given, and the silly accents they where forced to use, but it could have been better if hasbro had hired better voice actors.

I think you're contradicting yourself.

I'm not maligning the abilities of VAs, I'm just saying that ADR work places significant artistic constraints on them because they have no control over timing or phrasing. I think any VA would agree with that.

my appologies, i thought you where saying anybody could VA and that good voice acting doesn't matter... where am i contradicting myself tho?

You were talking about how ADR VA's do such great work and then you said how dubbed series always suck... at least that's how I read it.

but no, I have a lot of respect for VAs; I just think it's got to be a frustrating experience for them to have to do ADR work.

My idea :

NO MORE SERIES LONG STORYLINES.

you're ghey. :grr

that's one of the few good things aobut the whole of Armada, Energon and Cybertron.

though it shouldn't be used so often.

:pfx & that's why I also really enjoy watching Cybertron, Energon, etc.  I wish the originals were like the new series!

Yes, I have to agree, if it wasn't for a good storyline, I wouldn't have brought as many toys. After watching the shows and just seeing the characters, it makes me want to buy even the lameness toys.

:lol

i have almost everything from armada to cybertron and i have yet to see an episode of anything since beast machines.

I hate how armada, energon, and cybertron are part of the same continuity but they leave giant gaps between each series. they almost never explain the body changes, or the addition/subtration of characters. In energon they never explain why the decepticon no longer convet the minicons and in cybertron they no longer need energon.

I feel that the show's sole purpose is to sell toys instead of using show to bring the toys to life. I get tire of the transformers brain trust coming up with a gimmick and designing a TV show around it. Why not do what G1 and BW did and take Toys design characters for them, take those character and design a show, and then take your gimmick and mix it into the show.

For me, when BW went transmetal it was a lot to swollow, but it was made a lot easier by integrating it into the current story instead of just skipping a large chunk of time and starting over with transmetals.

I'm sure that there are writers out there that could brigde the gap of two series in 1 or 2 episodes.

the lipsync is just awful in GF too...

I'm refering to the lip syncing only, not the quality of acting. the lip animation was just HORRIBLE.

I must state I am making this list just for the fun of it because I am too pessimist and don't expect to EVER see this becoming a reality, though a part of my Lasercore is still hopefull. In any case this is what I wish to see on the next Transformers series:

1) Megatron

A massive machine that transform into a GUN! Just kidding!  :tftongue But I would like Megatron to be a menacing machine, like a tank (I know! Its old... bust still cool) or something hi-tech with plenty of firepower. Something similar to this Gundam beauty. A mutl-changer would be cool, too. So he can kick anything Prime throws at him! My first choice for a tank would be something :Dc As for Galvatron, a new mold for Galvatron!!! Make him a true upgrade of Megatron! Do it right or don't do it at all!!!

2) Optimus Prime

For a change, I would like an OP that transforms into a missile trailer like this one. WARNING: LARGE image ahead! (In case you get blocked, try this link and scroll for the 6th picture from the topl, which have the following test on the side "NL Patriot launcher deployed at the 2nd Tactical TU Air Base in Diyarbakir"). I know this goes against the image of "peace keeper" he has but when you deal with the Decepticons, you have to stop turning the other cheeck and start returning the hits. Therefore, he must have a more "aggressive" vehcile mode.  I would dare suggest to make an OP that is not a two-in-one machine (trailer + cab) but I am sucker for Primes like that! But as long as they don't make another animal-based TF out of him (at least not one named Optimus because there's only ONE Optimus) I'll be happy with whatever they throw as long as its massive and cool!

3) NO MORE ANNOYING HUMAN COMPANIONS! >_<

Just because the target audience are kids I don't believe the characters have to be Sesame Street's rejects!  :tftongue (same apply to the robots). I want tomething more serious. Like humans trying to destroy Transformers out of fear (like in the Marvel books) or using them to advance their secret agendas (like in Neon Genesis Evangelion).

4) Recolors

I know the economy is not what it used to be, but for the sake of Primus, STOP this trend already! I want to have variety on my collection! Or at least make them interesting or well done. This include no "upgrades" of characters. Make new molds instead!

5) Accessories

I love mechs with a variety of weapons/accessories. If fear of loosing them is a factor, they could be stored within the robot like in the Beast Wars line (without being part of the alternate form).

6) Articulation

Definitivelly a must!!! Just because they're "G1-inspired" that doesn't mean they have to be blocks!  :tfmad

7) Animals

I don't mind seeing beasts on this new line. I like the combination of vehicles AND animals! We can have a G1/BW cross in here with a couple of TF turning into animals to prey upon humans. Maybe a second faction with their own Private (beast) wars.

8) Manufacturing

Improve the quality of materials used so the robots stay together and don't fall apart so easilly. Also, balance the proportions of the body so the freaking thing don't require  a pedestal to stay standing in robot mode!

9) Box Art

Me want return of LARGE art on the boxes! Card-type ilustration w/ Tech Specs on the back like the Japanese G1-Reissues would be Prime! If possible, "battle scene poster" on back and a nice catalog.

10) TV show/Comics

For a TV show, there should be a couple of things to take in consideration, like a stable timeslot, preferibely one where kids can watch, though i don't mind long as the show is aired unless is in early mornings. And if the show is released on DVD, PLEASE! Make them in chronological order! No more "best of..." episodes collection! The reason I don't bother buying the later series' DVDs is because of that. And if possible, put in some extras, like characters bios or other interactive content. Not necesarially something too expensive, if that's the reason they don't do it. For the comic, I care either way but I would like to see a stable comic line that could take a deeper look into aspect of the series the TV show don't cover. And no more freaking multi-covers issues!! I like them but can't afford them!

I'll spare you any more ranting/non-sense... for now. I just wanted to voice my devious mind. Now to "play" with my G1 Megatron bootleg! I want to make a banner for my site with him!

:Dc
