Cybertron Scourge

Recommended Posts

Sorry to hear you're so disappointed with this purchase.

Truth be told, I think Scourge is an awful figure, no matter what version you buy. I like the robot head, but that's really where it stops. The colors are already so-so, but the lack of poseability and very playskool look from him makes me really regret having bought this one.

Scourge would've been a fantastic figure...if he had been a basic or deluxe; but for an ultra... :puke

I've had no problems with the quality or the looks of my Cybertron Scourge. As others have said, I dislike the lack of articulation, especially in the elbows and such. Still, he's a cool looking figure.

This whole toyline seems backwards. There's more poseability in the cheaper figures than there is in the more expensive ones. I mean, crap, look at Supreme Starscream! He should have moving fingers, just like Unicron did. He should be able to do the splits while still having his feet firmly planted on the ground.

I'm hoping that they do as good a job as they've done on the scouts and such for the next toyline, but with more articulation(and therefore playability) to the bigger toys.

I keep wondering that myself  :tfhuh  I guess T-man is right.  It's probably hasbro being a cheap-ass.  I just picked up Energon Galvatron and Superlink Galvatron General, and maybe it's placebo affect, but I feel like the plastic on the Superlink Galvy G just feels 'better'.  I tend to feel that way about most of my Japanese bots.

I have noticed that occasionally there is a difference in the plastics used.

However, I don't attribute it to "cheapness" on Hasbro's part, but beleive it's in response to US toy safety laws.  When I do notice a difference, the Japanese toy's plastic tends to be stiffer type (e.g. Vector Prime's sword).  This makes it more brittle and more likely to break in such a manner as to form a sharp edge - use of a softer plastic prevents a break from holding a potentially sharp edge.  The primary advantage to using a stiffer plastic is that the plastic hold details from the mold better than a softer type.  It probably also "feels better" due to the firmness.

You seem to be going a little overboard with this, A3. Surely he's a still a good figure? Does the color difference REALLY mean that much to you?

It is funny, normally I don't care all that much. For some reason this figure makes more sense to be orange than yellow. Could be his personality in the show. I am by far not the most picky person when it comes to toys. I have customers who want to go through my whole stock to make sure they get the figure with the best paint, I am no where near that picky but when it comes to colour scheme and overall apearance, I know what I like. In the end it is an opinion and nothing more.

I like the figure and it now sits on top of the case at my store with all my other Galaxy Force figures, hopefully accompanied by Thundercracker soon as well.

Let's just say I have learned my lesson. If I want to keep a figure then I should do so when it comes in and not flip flop on it because in the end I may not end up with what I really want.

Spencer. - who thinks Scourge is an AMAZING figure otherwise. I love it as a toy.

This whole toyline seems backwards. There's more poseability in the cheaper figures than there is in the more expensive ones.

that's because the more articulation a tf has, the more it costs to produce due to the number of extra parts. the big tf's need to have less articulation to keep them from costing too much.

I've also come to realize that the bigger TFs need those less-poseable "clicky" joints to support their weight; I don't know if the simple ball-and-socket joints that the the Basics/Deluxes have would be able to hold up a full-size Mega/Ultra/Leader-class figure.  I mean, imagine how flimsy a Galaxy Convoy or Master Galvatron would eventually end up if they just had ball-and-socket joints all over the place?  So the clicky joints limits articulation to pre-determined amounts, so as the figure doesn't collapse on itself just by standing there.  Nowhere near as poseable as ball-and-socket joints, but it'll have to do for the bigger figures...

That, and the cost, like Hornet said.

Sometimes I wonder why do these companies feel the need for there product to be different. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just make everything in the same factory then just package it in a different box? There also wouldn't so be much tension on the fan consumers (I know the regular customers like children won't care) to get the better version or feel that our product is inferior when we cannot afford to get the better version (in some cases). Are these chages unavoidable or do the companies just want to differentiate their products from each other? If anyone knows please do tell me.

The type of plastic used is probably a result of having different plastic available, the way the plastic was produced, or the choice in plastic (due to "cheapness").

As for colour, I seem to remember hearing that, as part of their deal with Takara, Hasbro had to make their releases different from the Takara releases.  Hence the differences in paint job between Japan and US releases.

That's not the case at all.  Otherwise, Landmine'd be different from Guardshell.  Which isn't the case.  They're identical.

The only point where this is a concern is when Hasbro wants to do a deco similar to one of Takara's rare exclusives, and even then, I believe it's an unwritten rule, out of respect for their business partnership, than Takara simply laying down the books "you can't do that!".  This hasn't come up that often though, since Takara's exclusives are generally pretty silly.  The only case in recent memory is the upcoming release of Cybertron Excillion, our version the the GF Red Excillion DVD exclusive.  And by word of mouth, ours is apparently better (hood flame deco, black tires, other possible changes), and cheaper, since it'll be a non-exclusive mass release :P.

Thanks, Hornet, that makes a lot of sense. I honestly never looked at it like that, so thanks for pointing that out.
