Major reason for g1ers NOT to hate Beast Machines

Recommended Posts

The morph-forming sucked and still does.

Yeah, that really bothers most people (including me) - even though so much of G1 was exactly that.  I think we all got too cozy w/ the uber-toy-accurate transformations in BW.

Rhinox turning to "evil" was the hardest thing for me to swallow.  All throughout BW, he would usually be the first to back Optimus up whenever he made a questionable decision - especially if it involved ethics.  Then all of a sudden he chooses to defect??  It just didn't seem to fit his character at all.

Cheetor was masterfully executed, IMO.  We saw him growing up more and more throughout BW, and it seemed very natural in BM for him to assume command.  I agree with the statement that Hot Rod may have been much better-received in G1 had he been given the screen time to grow up before the movie like Cheetor was given.  Also notice that this has never been successfully duplicated since... Armada Hot Shot sticks out clearly in my mind, Energon didn't really approach anything like a leadership change, and they're not even trying for that archetype at all in Cybertron.  (I'm guessing RiD didn't have it either, but I didn't watch any of it so I don't know for sure.)  :tftongue

I can't wait for BM to come out on DVD so I can watch it again... I too hated it at the time, but definitely want the chance to re-watch it now and see if I still feel that way.

Yeah if you took out all the spiritual stuff, it would be a great show.  Primal went a little too Morpheus on us and Cheetor was too Neo-like.  It was my first year of college when I started watching BM and I always had to watch it with my roomate in the room (damn dorms) and he would constantly Starscream about how much it was like the Matrix.  I didn't see it until after he said that, and it was, you have to admit.  And whenever Primal would sit in the Lotus position, he would crack up, and rightfully so, it looked stupid as hell.  The overall story was good, the character interaction was good, but it was WAY WAY too melodramatic, and preachy.  There are other ways to achieve the same end result as to what they were trying to accomplish.

Yes, it was far too preacy for it's own good.

Geeze you know I have been talking about how much I hate it, but now that I read all this, I think I like it again. lol. I'm so fickle when it comes to Beast Machines. I think I do need to watch it again.

someone mentioned how it parrelled G1 and I think that is really true.  You have the first half of G1, which plays it pretty safe as far as Sat morning toons go, and then the movie happened and it changed, and they lost viewers and interest, although from a storytelling standpoint the show improved 100% IMO

I still think BW is 100% better then BM but it really wasn't a bad show, at least it took a more mature approach to TF which is more then I can say for the new Transformer shows.  But still you have some huge shift in how the story is told, and most people have a hard time adapting.  Cheetor was the new Rodimus and I didn't even realize it.  (runs to go find my old Cheetor figures)

See if they would have brought in Hot Rod in the first part of G1 before the movie, I think kids would have taken to him better, or if they had just given him a mask over his face like optimus it would have been great (don't tell me you haven't drawn an Op mask on Roddy before).  He looks great with a mask.

Never really thought of that before, but you are right. I definitely see the similarity b/w the characters and their development.

I did like Hot Rod but didn't really like Rodimus Prime. I sorta liked BW Cheetor (a little annoying at times, but overall ok), but I really liked BM Cheetor. Interesting how that works out. The BM Cheetor mentality should have gone into Rodimus, that would have greatly improved the G1 seasons 3 and 3.5.

Also the introduction of Hot Rod and the other movie characters in season 2 would have helped quite a lot, good point. That probably would have helped the acceptance of Rodimus similarly to how it helped the acceptance of BM Cheetor's shift in personality.

I just love Monday morning quarterbacking twenty years after the fact. :tftongue  :roll

Well Lonecow makes a good point, and I think that would have greatly improved what everyone agrees to be a vastly inferior post-movie couple of seasons.

I do see the matrix theme here. what with the drone machines and the ninja moves the maximals do. Wierd how i never noticed that before.

Who saw the g1 characters in the show, it was that episode with the mass piles of bots and you see a bunch of g1 characters like kup. Ill never forget that. That and how waspinator got on cybertron. please sombody explain that to me.

YES! please someone explain! i forgot how......i think he became leader of the neanderthals and was trying to find different ways back to cybertron (i.e. catapult :tflaugh )

No, but really how did he get back up there? lol

I think he just flew back.  The pre-humans got tired of him.

I think it was In a flashback from the episode where it is revealed who waspinator is the pre-humans did catapult him back to cybertron(i won't say who he is for anyone who hasn't seen that episode). But its been a few years and lost brain cells since I've seen that episode

I haven't seen Beast Machines yet, but this makes me want to see it even more. *loves the Matrix trilogy*  :thumb

I don't know about Cheetor being Neo-like.  Primal wasn't too happy when Cheetor starting giving orders.  And he wasn't the oracle's chosen one.
