Major reason for g1ers NOT to hate Beast Machines

Recommended Posts

Well I remember when Wolfeman was talking about working on Beast Machines, cause like I said I used to really like Beast Machines, but I was under the impression that he only did the Return of Optimus Prime, from what he said at the time, cause at the time all TF fans were going crazy (in a good way) when they heard he was writing fo BM, and he came out and said, he just did the Return of Optimus Prime story in G1, it wasn't like he was one of the main writers, they just brought him in for that one arc, which really isn't that good of one (i'm bitter cause Roddy got the Matrix taken from him, but after rewatching it recently he kicked ass up until the point they turned him red...der)

But anyway, in BM if I remember there was some kind of virus that starts changing the Transformers blue or something. I thought that was funny cause of the whole virus turning them red in G1.  The man likes his color changing viruses.

But also, I want to say from the interviews I saw of Wolfeman and Skir, Wolfeman seemed humble and was always nice to the fans etc.  Skir constantly said he didn't care about the fans and that it was "his" show and he would do what he wants.  That attitude was another reason I didn't like Skir.  I know that has NOTHING to do with the show, but it's something that sticks in the back of your head when you're watching BM, and I think led me into not liking it.  It is his show, I understand that, before you start attacking me, but he is dealing with established characters, not characters he created, so esstully to me it's the same as fan fiction.

Could be that Skir was on the defensive a bit... you might be too if you'd received death threats for something you'd worked on and were proud of.

In one of the more sadder cases involving the Transformers fandom, writer Bob Skir received so many death threats via e-mail over his work on Beast Machines, that he has refused to show his face at any type of Transformers convention

yeah I can see that.  I actully sent him a list at the time of over 300 TF fans that liked BM, lol.  So I was doing just the opposite at the time, but now I hate it.

But after reading some stuff about Transtech, I think that would have made Beast Machines a lot better, because it shows that Beast Machines was just a segway into their own show, hopefully with original characters.

I think what makes me the maddest about Beast Machines is that it is basically the end of TV transformers from America.  I mean if you aren't a crazy fan like most of us, if you just watched all the Transformers shows from America back to back, then Beast Machines is the last chapter to a great legacy, and it was just ho hum.

And alot of people go on and say "you just don't like it cause it's different" and that is not the case at all.  Beast Wars was different, and people were hostile towards it at first, but now it is held in the same esteem as G1 (with most people), because it was great writing. Beast Machines was just different :)

But I'll stop, I'm still new, and I'm sure this has all been stated before....

Beast Machines is a good show except for the Rattrap Rhinox parts.

A 1000x better than any of those crappy Japanese cartoons. Ok, some of the characters and character development is odd in BM but at least it HAD some. Try watching Headmasters. The action is ok but there is not a shred of character in any of the Transformers.

That's scary. I'm shocked Aron Archer is still kickin' after all the toy decisions. I may not like all the decisions out there but cant imagine threatening a creator with death! "Gah Damn!"

Anyone who hates it can go stand in the 'Star Trekkers who love the original series but hates everything that followed' line

I think I can see my brain...Yes, go stand in line with everyone who disliked RiD, Armada, Energon, or Galaxy Force/ Cybertron.  You must like every single series that has come out, or you're just another cool-to-hate Transfan snob.

My only complaint about Beast Machines is how they altered Primal's Character. He went from a Superhero with a decent sense of humour to a inept, indecisive hippy.

I understand most of the cause of that is the huge amount of guilt he  feels over losing the Beast Wars and the repercussions that had on Cybertron, but still it was just such a huge character shift.

Cheetor really shone though in the leader spot, I loved the extra character development for everyone, the general shift in the "feel" of the show.

And Primal completely redeemed himself in the superhero department in the last couple of episodes though. His fight with Optimal Megatron is probably the best I've seen in a TV series, not just  a TF series.

:pfx completely. Very well put.

I loved Cheetor's development, it was one of the best character shifts in any series, he truly kicked @$$ in BM. The Primal fight was the best one in the TFs mythos. It truly showed the potential of what could have been if they do these shows correctly.

As I said above, I loved the character development... for the most part. I did not like the way they treated Rattrap. Rhinox, on the other hand, I didn't mind the way his character was treated so much. It was a very interesting twist w/ Rhinox, that is for sure, but Rattrap definitely got the shaft.

All of the characters went through changes... the thing people forget most often IMO is the fact that Primal had the Oracle downloaded into him in the first episode. Immediately afterward, he started saying stuff like "I understand" and "the seeds of the future lie buried in the past" and everyone else was all like "WTF are you talking about."

My favorite part of beast machine was the hopeless battle the maximals fought against millions of vehicons. There wasn't alot of hope since they all thought primal went nuts except cheetor but even he had his doubts about primal. A very dark series compared to BW. Character wise these were some of my favorites except Nightscream and I would love to see a follow up to them like transtech with a freakin botanica figure. Maybe if the 10th BW figures do well they will do a build-your-own-botanica figure like the transmutate
