I realize that no one was really to scale (as Megatron was juuust a bit shy of 30 feet tall), but another reason I believe the Predacons and Maximals were smaller is because of their alt modes.  Optimus Prime being huge is to be expected, if he's a semi in another form.

I realize Rattrap was a huge rat, and Megs was a tiny T-Rex and whatnot, but hey.

Dragan Megatron was like 12 feet tall

You gotta look at the fact that TF developed on a seperate world when you look at there tech too.  Even on Earth different areas of the planet developed different techs at different speeds.  Some never developed things that others considered normal day to day stuff.

Certain things in reality would never get developed.  They'd never have a need to develop any tech meant for food production, harvest, or processing.  They'd never develop most medical technologies.  Because they wouldn't need them.

However they would be far more advanced in mechanics.  Energy manipulation.  Information management networking and computer technologies.  And since they'd been at war for several millions years there weaponry and warfare tech would be incredibly advanced.

But also since they were constantly at war your gonna see certain areas of research and development stunted.  Since R&D shops are always a great target in War.  Steal or destroy research before your enemy can use it.  It would naturally slow down certain progress as efforts and resources are focused more towards defense and offense techs.

Nanotech would most likely have been used first as a weapon long before it would have been developed for transforming needs.

Think about an Nanotech Virus as the TF version of Chemical or Biological weapons.  A Cybernetic Anthrax if you will.

And you have to remember that TFs don't age, and they don't die unless killed.

With Human beings a great weapon is developed.  Its power used to level a city of two.  The leaders see the cost of such a weapon and lock it away.  Keeping it only as trump card but hoping to never use it again.  A generation or two later men who know of its power, but weren't there to see the devestation realize it can be harnessed to power cities instead of destroying them.  The old Guard is no longer in power, this new generation takes the weapon and develops it into something new and useful.

With TF the leader that unleashed the weapon, that saw the devestation, is still the leader a million years later, unless someone killed him.  Thus he will still have it locked away.  Not wanting to use such devstating force again unless he is forced to.

So you will tend to end up with a dramatic slow down in development.

And this went far longer then I intended.

Think about an Nanotech Virus as the TF version of Chemical or Biological weapons.  A Cybernetic Anthrax if you will.
