I do not believe Hasbro would confine an Anniversary line like this to just one store, as it would essentially kill it.

Well, isn't that what they did do the G1 reissues?? I mean TRU was the only store that had them...so are you saying hasbro learned from that fiasco and will not do the same to beast wars.....

The Reissues were available from Takara before Hasbro released it in the US.  If Hasbro had released the Reissues first, things would probably be different.  But since people could pick up Takara's counterpart (which was always better) the line ultimately failed IMO.  Hasbro came in too late and thus suffered because of it.  If they had been first to do it, the line could have succeeded (or done much better).

Besides, BW is specifically labelled as an "Anniversary" line.  I think that makes it different.  Hopefully we'll see stuff from Wal-Mart computers within the next several months to see if BW is being carried there.

And has anyone considered the possibility that a wide release for BW anniversary toys might not be justified? These are toys for fans. And as we should all know by now, fans are not the primary demographic that Hasbro or any other toy company caters to.

Alternators is more for the fans, yet that has received mass distribution.

Either way, I don't care.  I'll still get them somehow.

Being a "nostalgia toy for fans" is what killed the reissue line, limiting them to TRU had little to do with it.  It should have only been limited to a couple of releases and then stopped.  Because from the outset I'd say that there were only a few reissues that would ever be economically viable - Optimus, Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream, Jazz and maybe Sideswipe.  Even at more stores and at a cheaper price point (which wouldn't have been that much cheaper - they were never going to get down to $10-15 range) the G1 resissues would have still been clogging the shelves.

but BW appeals to both kids and collectors. the G1 re-issues were expensive collectors' pieces by today's standards whereas modern kids can actually afford and play with BW reissues.

Don't forget that they're also going to try to get the show back on TV next as well.

:wtf That's news to me. Well in that case, it sounds like they might be testing the waters a bit. I still think that a store exclusive is the right way to go at this point, especially since it's Target, which IMO is a lot better than most places. (YMMV)

hell, up here in Canada, YTV never really cancelled the show. they just move it to a different time-slot every season.

Oh come now, I'd hardly call it mass distribution  :tftongue

I still contend that the reissue line failed due to high prices and bad mold choices, as opposed to distribution and/or availability of Takara brand reissues.  The first few (Optimus, Magnus, Hot Rod, and SS) were all reasonably priced, plus they were some of the best, and most iconic, molds from G1.  Afterward, the molds just got worse and the prices shot up.  Example - Rodimus was twice as much as Hot Rod - WHY?  And how many people really wanted Inferno, Grapple, or Hoist?  Or every Starscream repaint ever, for that matter - at the same price as SS himself, no less.  If Hasbro had wanted the line to succeed they would've priced all the deluxes like Hot Rod (around $15-20) and released some of the better molds - like Hound and/or Soundwave - that WERE in the Takara line.
