Transformers Were meant to be:

Recommended Posts

Now correct me if i am wrong but - in defense of Pretenders, Beast Bots, Beast Wars and Beast Machines

Werent Transformers ALWAYS supposed to be Technoorganic???

I mean the original G1 story basically said that when they crashed on Earth Teletran One scanned the surrounding area and "Mistook" the vehicles for sentient life.

So what would happen if Teletran 1 Was NOT a senile Volcano mashed up hunk of junk...

IF it had done its job correctly then G1-Transformers would have been:

Pretenders

Beast Wars type bots

ie:

TECHNO-ORGANIC

Thinking about this - an organic core to Cybertron is completely believeable.

and Even kinda adds an interesting twist to BM's Hatred of Organics....

Just a thought....

In the begining the Transformers were purely mechanical. After coming contact with humans, the TFs evolved incorporating organics into themselves. Thie lead to the Pretender which eventually evolved into the technology used by the Beast era TFs.

Let's chat.

G1 - Originally, Cybertronians never met organic lifeform before. This could be that they didn't have the opportunity to do so or are extremely xenophobic and abhored alien contact. So when the Transformers crash landed on Earth, it was not because it was by choice, but by necessity. Teletran 1 scanned for "native mechanical lifeforms" for the Transformers to take an alt mode from so that they can disguise themselves.

Pretenders and Nebulons came later. Pretender technology was designed to infiltrate (in both the NorAm and Japanese versions of the story,) while Nebulons (NorAM) were meant to be additional components that enhanced the Transformer they are "binary bonded" with - Transectors in Japan, however, were supposed to be mindless bodies, while the head/engine/weapon contained the actual personality of the robot.

Beast Wars - The Predacon and the Maximals had to adopt organic forms originally to protect themselves from the high Energon level of prehistoric Earth.

Beast Machines - a flakey attempt to indoctrinate the masses of New Agism. The whole "Cybertron has an organic core" reeks of pseudo-religious content and a self-righteous world perspective (most likely from the fundamentalist environmentalism mentality of the writers.) Of the three, Beast Machine is the most out of place in terms of continuity, logic, and reasoning. If Cybertron was originally organic and if the "life force" of its organic component is so powerful (as seen in the last episode of Beast Machine,) why was it so easily suppressed and contained? If techno-organisms were superior, why would neither side adopt it to up the ante in the arms race between the two factions? Ever since G1, organic enhancement were a fact and a record, so what happened? This was not explained nor explored in Beast Machine during its run (the dialogue was riddled with semi-religous rants.) This is part of the reason why Beast Machines failed to lived up to its potential.

Yeah, as you can tell, I am not a Beast Machines fan. Sorry about the rant.

TF's were purely mechanical in G1. Their attempts to incorporate organic forms led to things like the Dinobots, Insecticons, and the original Predacons. All had beast modes but all were undeniably pure mechanics.

SatanStorm -

I am hoping LMH joins the discussion and if he does your going to get whupped...

but to everyone I always thought that Teletran was trying to find the intelligent life when it did it's initial scan.  The fact that it thought Cars and Tape decks were sentient was a mistake!

And if i remember correctly - the insecticons Were NOT on the Ark - they came to earth BEFORE the other TFs awoke. and they DID indeed exhibit more organic features than your typical bots.

Such as - Being able to eat plant life.

Didn't the G1 Techspecs also refer to some semi-organicness to Cybertron?

Aoi

Depends on the continuity. In the comics they came to Earth following Blaster and Megatron gave them their modes after knowing about the planet.

In the show they landed long before and the only on the planet was plants and insects. They were still purly mechanical.

Teletran 1 scanned the vehicles because it thought that they were dominant species on the planet.  Also, since the TF were mechanical, it would make most sense, in terms of repairs, that mechanical things were used.

Or, it could be that the toys were cars, trucks, jets, etc, and so that is how the characters were.

In before LMH :tftongue

Transformers were meant to be toys that have two or more forms.... the rest is attempting to apply a story with or without logic to said toys.

That being said, a fanboy explanation would be as follows:

IN marvel G1, there was an epic battle between Primus & Unicron over the fledgling universe, Primus wanting to protect it, Unicron wanting to consume it.  In their epic battles, neither could better the other, they were too evenly matched.  However, Primus eventually noticed that their battle was destroying the fledgling worlds he was trying to protect.  Primus then tricked Unicron into a battle in the astro-plane, and in the illusion of defeat, began his 'retreat' back to the 'real' world.  Unicron, too blinded by the chance of victory, followed Primus back blindly, but not into their original bodies, but into lifeless planetary bodies, most likely worlds that were just destroyed by their battle.  Each entity began reshaping their worlds, Primus into Cybertron, Unicron into his new body.  This in and of itself would explain Cybertron's "organic" origins, as it may have been an organic planet before catastrophe destroyed all life and Primus merged himself into the planet to begin rebuilding it.
