G1 cartoon Ultra Magnus

Recommended Posts

Ultra Magnus was a great character He was a great coldier and commander but he didnt want to lead. In the Cartoons and the comics he was willing to give his life for others which a leader should not do. A real leader would be willing to sacrifice lives which Ultra Magnus would rather do himself than let others die

I disagree. A faithful leader will lay down his life for his soldiers.  He must be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of others; his own life. Without this attribute you are no more than a "hireling" and have no real right to lead.

A good leader will never ask or demand more then he is willing to do him self.

But that doesn't mean that he's unwilling to send his troops into harm's way. That's part of the deal -- you sign up to fight, you go to fight when your number is called. Leaders are there to lead. Sometimes on the field, sometimes off.

well they did give magnus alittle more spotlight in R.I.D, besides that he's never really got the credit he is due, i like magnus also and wish they would do more on him. maybe they will make a new mold for him in the next line and give him some kick ass parts

A leader should be the first one into battle and the last one to leave.

A leader is there to serve, not to be served. Yes they give orders and others must follow their command (otherwise chaos would reign). But that is what the burden of leading is all about at its core. Serving others.

To assume that everyone is there to serve you makes you nothing more then a dictator. Morally it is really the complete opposite. You lead to serve everyone else.

What's ironic is RID mags is the only Magnus to have an original mold, every other Magnus has been recycled from a previous toy.

When did Magnus not go in and lead the troops?

I think this is getting off topic here...hhhmmm...

The word "leader" means a lot more than just "squad commander", which is what you're describing. There are higher levels of leadership that don't require you to be on the field; indeed it would be counter-productive for a general to be on the field b/c he is in charge of a large number of troops. And anyway, when you're talking about a military organization, guess what -- you are supposed to serve your commanding officers. But just because that's the case, it doesn't mean that a commanding officer is by default an uncaring dictator. Quite the opposite. He knows that he holds the lives of his men in his hands, and does whatever he can to keep them from needless harm.

:pfx

I see Magnus as the guy with the desk job, as opposed to Prime who's out there fighting directly. They're both leaders, just of different calibers. Magnus would be sitting in his office with his advisors and tacticians, while Prime would be marching his troop around the battlefeilds.

Of course, I can't prove that.. but thats just the feel I get..

I think the only reason Galvatron pwned him was because of that issue with the matrix not wanting to work.
