Transformers and Power Rangers

Recommended Posts

Hm, I still like Power Rangers... The old Dinozords were pretty cool, and I kinda like some of the newer figures, too (the "Battleized" figures... they look neat with the armor on, and you also basicly get two toys in one here, also... )

And being a huge mecha/robot fan, I don't pick sides

You really can't compair Gundam to TF.... It just doesn't work.... TFs have their own conciousness of sorts, they think for themselves, while a mecha needs it's pilot to think (well, usually... there are some cases that this isn't true, but not many... )

As for the topic debate, PR is on way too much, so kids see it more.... Little Billy might not know what a TF is, and want to waste his allowance on it, but he sure knows what PR is!

Also, for the prices, wouldn't inflation be a factor? I know model kits used to be uber cheap way back when, but now airplane kits average $12+ ect.... I remember Ninja Turtles and such were about $5 when I was a kid (heck, they still are, aren't they?... ) Anyhoo, not sure how much the old G1 figures were, but could inflation be to blame on the prices? (or atleast part of it... )

hi !!!

i,m i the only one who thinks that takara is making too many different transformers show just like they do with power rangers they go on and on and on ? why not try to make a g1 show that as a more adult touch and a side show that can entertain the younger audience ?.. because i dont know if your like me but boy they seem to create shows that seem to have no content...or continuity and that usual have no link with the other transformers shows? the best continuity thus far that i have seen is g1 and beast wars .... and the writers seem to really think to make interesting stories and were not afraid to kill off caracters .....but from there the other shows have bored me because of their too-goody approche....well let,s face it , it will never have the g1 feel...guess i,m from the old school but still.....

they should try to concentrate on one show being entertaining instead of  trying to dizzying us into just buying their merchandise... and this seems to be anoying allot of hardcore fans....

oh well maybe i,m just too difficult but still i really hope they wont screw-up the movie with their "i dont care what i show as long as you buy everything "mentality

from a fan who knows what he like

There's no purpose in Hasbro producing a TF show that appeals to adults. They're a toy company and they make toys for kids. Sure they could make a more *intelligent* kids' show that adults might enjoy, but quality costs money. And I'm guessing that Hasbro's return on investment in Beast Machines was low enough to scare them away from "quality" programming for a while.

We forget that the bottom line *is* the bottom line. Quality is secondary and will only be valued more highly if the market demands it (and by "market" I mean the TF market overall, not what the adult collectors want).

maybe if we're lucky, the fiasco with the energon cartoon has scared hasbro BACK into wanting quality.

This is like the other thread that discusses the difference between US and Japanese cartoons.

Basically, since the 80s, I believe there was a law that lifted making a cartoon based on a toy - this is because the said cartoon is seen as a 30 minutes commercial of its featured toys/characters. I do agree that while the quality of the RID/Armada/Energon cartoons were lacklustered, Beast Wars and Beast Machines didn't blow/suck as bad.

Case in point: Beast Wars and Beast Machines probably featured 20% of their respective toy line, while RID/Armada/Energon, this percentage was much higher. In Beast Wars, I don't remember seeing Wolfang, Snapper, Retrax, Manterror, Jetstorm, or Magnaboss in it. In Beast Machines, I don't remember seeing Longhorn, Quickstrike, or Snarl.

In RID, I think pretty much everybody was in it (don't quote me on it)

In Armada and Energon, same thing - what really got to me is that Armada had the gull to some repaints as "suped up characters" who just happened to have a change of color scheme, unlike Beast Wars' Transmetal upgrades.

beast wars and beast machine had a good quality show and continuity and was more appealling for adult viewers and also the toys were of good quality and realism....

basically what i,m saying is that takara is making too many shows and in my opinion is killing the franchise....and i believe they are trying to use the same formula as power rangers and i dont think it,s working.....they should concentrate on ONE SHOW and when the show reaches a certain quality they can gradually increase the number of caracter like they did in g1 and so this way it wont give us the impression that they,re making decisions like chickens with their heads cut off ,and only thinking of making a quick buck instead of looking in the long run instead....

one thing they should have done is to make a good quality show with alternators....it,s new and pleases both adult and youngs alike... and it would increase their sale for this toy line and give us more figurines that are appealling to us all !!

but this again is just my opinion ;)

well Power Rangers is thge number 1 boys toy :roll

yeah maybe but like i said the formula does not apply well to transformers ....since power rangers has more of a ninja-techno anything goes feel to it with poor storylines .... there,s no way this can apply to transformers since i think that a huge percentage of the fan base are adults in their 30 and wont go for the goody goody type show..... trying to make it more like a gundam feel show that would be WAY better.....

the potential is there but with the wrong formula....

well idd love for them to take the approch they bandai take to the gundam line but IMO it comes down to they western viewer and the japanese viewer both wont differnent things and IMO the show has suffered from trying to get the mix of both right saying that i like galaxy force and i hope it goes well in the western world

HHHHMMMM Power Rangers is saturating FABCFamaly, Toon Disny, ABC, etc. etc. Gundam seed is on at midnights on friday, wich show is more susesful?
