Transformers and Power Rangers

Or they have really bad taste.  :tflaugh

Just kidding. There is no accounting for taste so Masterforce is not nessecarily a bad show but it is a bad Transformers show because it is just not Transformers.

I think the Japanese just want to make themselves feel better by having humans dominate the show. They know Transformers are better (being faster, smarter, stronger and all that) than humans and one never likes that.

So they put a human in the show that has a special ability that a Transformer does not have. Such as Kicker had. Then they make him boss the Transformers around which makes them feel superior.

Not only that but the Transformers lack any personality. As if they can never be human and that is just what made Transformers great.

It is kinda sickening if you ask me.

PS- the Japanese also had a group of Transformers they called Godmasters. Not sure if they were controlled by humans (not sure but one can bet they were) but the name is a tad blasphemous if you ask me.

i don't think it's that simple. i think that the japanese just have a hard time thinking of tf's as actual lifeforms. to the japanese, the tf's are just gundam-like warmachines that have AI. notice that robots that actually look human, like Motoko Kusanagi, are treated more like living creatures. it's possible that the japanese just think it's impractical for intellegent robots to be giant and mech-like. they probably don't understand why the tf's just don't download their AI's into human-like bodies if they were more concerned with blending in.

To me there is not really a difference between a large or small mechanoid.

And Transformers is still a kids show so practical is not always an issue. I agree that smaller bodies are more practical but when one has the energy sources for it, one would not put one's spark into a small body.

I would want a large body that is capable of carrying a lot of weapons. If I wanted to blend in I would choose a vehicle mode anyways since trying to pose a human would not really work either since it is too easy to find out I was not a human.

When I was a kid, a huge bot also sounded a lot cooler than a smaller human sized one. That was part of the cool factor, huge machines of great destructive capability that (in case of the Autobots) often did not even want to fight..

And why would a robot have a human like appearence (2 legs, 2 arms and a head) a robot should also be able to have different forms such as most of the cassetes or Trypticon had. It always struck me as off that the Transformers looked rather a lot like a human in robot mode.

I would think that a robot with 4 arms has a definete advantage.  :tftongue  The Beast Machines vehicons were a welcome change though.

you know, the more i think about masterforce, the more i understand why the japanese like it more than the other tf series, it just seems more practical to them. the tf's use pretender technology to disguise themselves as humans. by doing this, they can better interact with human civilization than they could have if they disguised themselves as vehicles. for one, the tf's could better interact with humans and go inside buildings. and like i said before, the japanese don't consider tf's to be lifeforms so they're not really affected when a tf dies. if anything, they're probably thinking "it just a robot, why don't they just repair it?". by making tf's human piloted mechs, it adds more drama to the cartoons because there are actual living humans who are putting their lives on the line to defend earth. a human death would be considered a lot more poignant.

It is more practical to pose as a human but then it would be more practical to have a smaller robot from the head of a full-size Transformer. In non-combat situations the head could detach and save Energon.

I wonder what the Japanese would think of Deep Space Nine's Odo.  :tftongue

Technically speaking a Transformer may not even be a life form but they are surely sentient. I would think that for the Japanese who are constantly working on developing new technologies it would be a thing they could accept.

If something is sentient, can feel pain or emotions then it fits my definition of life. And the death of any life form saddens me, wheter it is Transformer or human. I could also say if a human dies "plenty where that came from". and not give a damm. :tfevil

(On the other hand if Kicker died I would not cry, I would be doing a silly happy dance.  :tflaugh)

god i miss the simplicity of the g1 cartoon

Personally I miss a lot of those days.  :tftongue

well perhaps we,re grumpy old transformers fan.... althought i like gundams ...they have a japenesse feel to it and they kick ass !!! why cant they use that as a template ....hum... then i guess only the older kids (12+) would listen to it....seems like transformers in their current state are for children around 6-7 years old... just like the power ranger... and i do remember that i was around 11-12 years old when transformers (g1) was new and hell we all loved it even my 6 year old brother and his friends want crazy for them... or is it the non-violence policy that,s screewing everything up..... oh well guess it,s different tastes for different generations... but sometimes you can,t change the foundation of something without killing it,s core.....

To Hornet, you don't know anything about Japenese TFs, If japan thought TFs were Mear robots, then why does every series post BW refear to the spark(soul).

To BigDS Kids are used to animie, its praticly the only thing on anymore.

In japan the English word God, means Power, so when they translated Powermaster, it came out Godmaster

I thought kids liked Pokemon and the cheesy anime's right now. Do they even like PR anymore?
