Transformers and Power Rangers

Recommended Posts

maybe so but transformers is not working well so what wrong with it then ? why is the power ranger formula not working then ? i think a new (or old) approche

should be taken ....or we risk losing transformers .... i,m already seeing signs of this....just look at the alternators line dramaticly decrease as well of the reissues....

GOOD STORIES = SALES

this is a simple  enought formula right ?

But I don't think it's necessarily true. I look at some of the stuff I watched when I was a kid, and "good stories" never even crossed my mind. It was all about whether or not the *brand* itself was cool to me. If the brand was cool, I would watch the show. If it wasn't cool, I wouldn't watch the show.

In the case of the Power Rangers, it's a live action show with superheroes, supervillains, and giant transforming robots. And since they always stick to the same formula, kids always know what to expect when they watch the show, making it easier to follow along and not get lost. If I were a kid I would have loved the show. (I used to watch Battle of the Planets aka G-Force all the time, and it was pretty much the same thing as Power Rangers.)

Either way, I think the biggest problem with Transformers shows nowadays is that they're so forgettable.

might be but by pounding us with so many transformers show they dont let us enjoy one show long enought to appreciate it ....it,s one show after the other and that i believe is the real problem....

beast wars was popular with kids that i know so instead of continuing it they,ve decided to switch to a more "stuck as many show in your brain in little time so you,ll buy everything that we sale" policie and as a result getting us sick and tired real fast ......

Power Rangers definetely has an appeal but the show is heavily modified for the US market from Sentai.

Only the Sentai footage is used in which the Rangers are morphed and the rest is re-written. So one gets a show that would appeal more to US viewers.

And since the show has always been like that fans do not mind. I do not mind Power Rangers having simple episodes at times simply for that reason. Kids like the show because the characters are different every time but always very cool.

That and the emphasis on Zords makes the toys sell well.

I think Power Rangers would outsell Gundam worldwide. Here Power Rangers toys used to fill the shelves untill just recently. Gundam went on sale long before Armada did. And Gundam is a show really oriented for people who like Japanese cartoons. Just depends on taste really.

The point is that another show with Beast Wars quality could bring another Transformers "revival" and that is what Transformers need. Wheter they are bad or not, the Japanese cartoons could not cause such a revival simply because in the US/Europe/Australia their approach to cartoons does not work.

That has been the problem with both Armada and Emergon in my opinion. They simply were not suited to markets outside of Japan. The show was not liked all that well, hence sales were lower.

If you want Transformers to sell well then there has to be a good show with excellent characters. Such as Beast Wars. That makes the toys sell more than the actual quality of the toys. The first Rattrap was not really a good toy but who did not want one? Over half of the toys were not not the show but that did not mean that those did not sell.

The show was that memorable and good that it did not matter. One had to get the show characters and one had all of those one would go: "Hey, these are really good, I am going to buy more.". That is how it worked.

For a kid Energon would not really be all that memorable enough to buy a toy from. No characters that one did not see in other shows or that were really cool. So one never got the urge to buy a toy at all and therefor never notice how good they actually are.

And even for me I only buy them because I like Transformers and not because of their show appereance. If I had to buy them based on that I would not buy anyone of them or perhaps only a few.

I can think of exactly one toy I would by based on his show appereance: Kicker. (The rest I got simply because I love the toys.)

Why would I get him? Well, to blow him up as revenge for ruining a possibly good show.

I remember what I liked as a kid and that was a show about huge Transformers. If was 7 years now I would have turned off the tv after seeing Kicker boss those Transformers around.

It is my life long love for Transformers that made me keep watching it but a young kid does not have that so he will turn off immediately. US kids do not want to see annoying kids in cartoons.

Can anyone with kids verify that for me? Thanks in advance.  :thumb

yeah, the problem is that americans want to see giant robots blow s*** up. meanwhile, the japanese want human characters to drive the story along. as a result, the new cartoons focus too much on human characters for the american audience, and the new cartoons focus too much on the tf's for the japanese audiences.

the ideal set-up for hastak would be the following: in japan, the tf's would be diaclone while in america, they would be tf's. america would get an american made tf cartoon while japan got a japanese made diaclone anime. the toyline would be ambigeous enough for the tf's to pass as either, just like in G1.

Think that is the only option. But it might be pricey to produce two cartoons.

I would suggest a US made cartoon and if the Japanese do not like it then they can watch another show because there are plenty of Japanese robot shows.  :tflaugh

I would think that it is easier for Japanese Audiences to adjust to a US cartoon though seeing how G1 obviously run well enough for the Japanese to continue it.

And they will also need to adjust to the new movie which is also US made. (Thank Primus for that one.)

I would think that it is easier for Japanese Audiences to adjust to a US cartoon though seeing how G1 obviously run well enough for the Japanese to continue it.

that only worked by turing the tf's into piloted mobile suits for the Masterforce series. and takara was still forced to make ends meet in the later series by producing less villians and focusing more on the heros.

Yeah, that is true.

I try to forget about that travesty as much as I can. Human controlled Transformers is the worst idea ever. It totally destroyed what is Transformers and what makes it cool.

I think the Transformers just is not for Japan then. If they are not sentient robots then it is not Transformers at heart.

I loved power rangers as a kid. I did notice a quality drop once it hit season three of MMPR, and each series got worse from there. it only became bad when Lost Galexy premered.

G-Force is actually a lot different than Battle of the Planets. Newer translation, apparently. It's a lot closer to the original Gatchaman. I remember watching it and being bored by it. >.> sadly, there was nothing else on at the time.

Yeah, that is true.

yeah, ironically, Masterforce was the most popular tf series in japan ever. japan's obession with human characters is really boardering on xenophobia.
