Transformers and Power Rangers

Recommended Posts

Whatever. It sure looked as if the humans were controlling them.

And though I am certain that you are right (though I have no idea what a transecter is) that was just the first stepping stone.

I got a feeling that was just to probe if people were ready for human controlled Transformers. If they would accept this then they would also accept a show where no Transformer was sentient.

They did something similar on Star Trek Deep Space Nine with Kira. Having a female first officer on the show they could test if viewers were ready for a female captain.

People were ready so Janeway was the captain in Voyager.

The Japanese want all their Mecha piloted or human controlled. I do not recall seeing a show where the machines are not human controlled. Then again I usually steer clear of Japanese shows. Not my cup of tea. Not even the Japanese Transformers shows appeal to me that much.

And that is saying a lot because I love Transformers to death.

PR sucks ass, but has a consistent program schedule and is on in a good time slot.  Energon is on at 5AM, even I never woke up that early when I was a kid.

These kids today are also the ones that throw money away on Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

A good timeslot and decent network does 20%, a good show 40%  agressive commercials do the rest. Or something like that.  :tftongue

Energon here did not air at a decent time either. Power Rangers always did though the network that aired that ***** with that show too. We never got to see the season finale for Ninja Storm.

Still I doubt if a better timeslot had helped for Energon because that show was really bad too. I mean as a parent I would not want my kids watching that.

Why? Normally parents get their fill of annoying kids. So one would hardly watch a show where an annoying brat hogs all the airtime.  :tflaugh

Well it is a sad day when PR can outdo Transformers but here are just a few reasons why from world perspective:

1) In the Entertainment buisness the top 2 money makers are as follows. #1 PORN-big suprise huh? #2 Childrens Entertainment ages 5-10. (Last year the childrens entertainer "The Wiggles" made millions upon millions upon millions. making them the #1 export of Australia for 2004! They made twice as much as Aust. #2 did, Nicole Kidman!)

2) As pointed out above many times over: ADVERTISING!!! I get ecited when I see A TF comercial, only because it's like spotting a Bald Eagle in the wild, it's something I like, but rarely see. Without trying I see some PR add every day.

3) Staying power. Now many of you look at PR and go WTF. Listen first before casting stones, lol. Power Rangers had been going since the 70's in japan and what, '95 non stop here in the US. In Japan these guys along with a few other shows set the standard for Diaclone, not the other way around (that I'm aware of. If you can prove me wrong I'll forever love said person for saving me from this nightmare). The Toys are very in your face during the shows and make the Transformation sequence legendary...not just some quick blurb and a cool noise. They have it all, a cool devise to call up a zord, the sequence, and then the Rangers getting into the zord. This is repeated at least twice it seems in all the old shows; beating into childrens heads, "you need this, you want this!". Transformers sells well, no problem, but again too many repaints not enough new stuff. Power Rangers craps this stuff out like it was at an all night Mexican cook off.

4) As a sad, yet interesting note: To see the true power of "Story over Advertising" myth go and find a bootleg copy of Godzilla: Final Wars. For the last few years they have tried everything to bring Godzilla out of the "B" slump and recover from the Godzilla '98 incident. Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah is thought to have been the meanest of all the godzilla films filled with an great story and a ton of violence. A Godzilla fans dream, they made a great story and skipped all the hype (more or less). Parents watched as their kids actualy cried (an effect i hear many people suffered as kids watching prime die in TF:the movie), and despiesed the movie! Now Final Wars was made in a style that is kind of comical and fast pased. To be exact it's nothing more than a power rangers styled movie with a 20M budget (and still looks like it was shot with 1M). Anyways, the point is, If it does not work, go back to the standards. Monster movies used to be nothing more than humans vs. big ruber suited monsters. For PR it's always been the same, as the viewer group changes roughly every 2 years, they will change the format greatly (why i quit watching PR after the 3rd season), but the basics were still there for the show. Transformers had a great basic set down during the 80's and it never faultered one bit. But the line collapsed and instead of just folling the basics, they experimented. In the entertainment buis. change should only be tested in movies and specials as a rule. Yes, we'd love to see a great story with amazing art and all, but remember, these are still toys that are targeted towards kids for the most part. If only they'd advertise the Alts. a bit more (as all have said) they would be blown away with how well they would sell. I've convinced several car fans to go out and buy the series when they can. They like that they are well detailed and also have that "neat" transformation to them. Sorry for the rant

Doubt porn would need much advertising.  :tftongue

The Zord transformation sequences are always very cool and detailed. Good point as that definetely gets trough to the little kiddies.  :tflaugh

But people want wat they see on tv. It has always been like that. And it always will be. Saw a cute girl on tv, I want her too.  :tflaugh

And you cannot want what you do not know is there. I have often seen something in the store and then suddenly thinking "hey that is cool, I want it.". Often I change my mind because why would I buy something I did not want untill I saw it.  :tftongue

Same thing with kids, if I do not let a kid watch tv, he will never be brainwashed by Yu-Gi-Oh and want those cards. So which why the show is show constantly.

Ps- feel free to rant anytime you like.  :thumb

It baffles me how crap like this beats out TF :tflaugh

Hmm.. how to put this...

PR is crap for collectors.. unless you're talkin the crazy hard to find season 1 guys. I had a friend who had like all the original Dinozords.. and in my honest opinion, they were the ONLY good ones. I'm a wee bit biased though. For some odd reasons, I really liked Power Rangers when it came out. I was still young enough to enjoy it and not find it totally corny. Don't ask me to watch it now though.. honestly, I'd take Transformers G1 anyday over that. I kinda jumped in late on the PR bandwagon, only got all the thunderzords, which were not half as cool as the Dinozords. Sort of a waste if you ask me..

Thing is, kids give a crap about articulation and how a toy looks. They could play with freakin rocks if they get bored enough/creative enough ( :lol Alternator Rocklords, here we come.. ) .. TFs are a little more thought out in design, but lately, not by much. They really haven't been so good since BM ended.. and I say that, because I'd rather watch BM than some of this other stuff that's been coming out into the open..

-really dreading Cybertron's storyline. BEAUTIFUL toys.. it's just the Japanese way of doing things lately that scares me-

Wow.... k I'm done ranting now. :redface  :wave

Alternators Rock Lords...BRILLIANT MY FRIEND! Seriously though, it doesn't seem to matter how horribly ugly your toy is (see the hideous example I just posted), I mean it could look like something someone crapped out (which PLEX seems to be known for), and kids would buy it because it was featured prominently on the show. Now, Armada sold like crazy because the toys had retarded gimmicks, but Energon didn't have that so much...and it lagged in the sales dept. BTW, not to offend anyone's sensibilites, but IMO the Cybertron toys don't look that great, except Prime and Starscream. They just don't appeal to me, and it looks like they're trying more avant garde designs with that series...still, we'll have to see. I just hope TFs comes out ahead in the end somehow.

I'd say the advertisement is a big one, kids fall for it. But hasbro just sucks in that department, They just now have comercials for energon optimus..OOOOO could have used that like 5 months ago. they're way behind, they got to catch up. And no one can tell me that it takes a long time to shoot a commercial, Grab a kid, tell him to fly the toy around in his hand, make stupid shooting noises and follow with an ending, there you go, commercial over.

:lol

I remember the old BW commercials.. seems like when the whole Beast Era ended, so did hasbro's enthusaism (icky spelling) toward TFs.. shame really..  :tfsad
