This is just one fan's opinion and everyone's entitled to theirs:

 

There are just a whole lot more better characters to include than including Arcee.  I would not want to sacrifice say Sunstreaker for Arcee, just for the excuse of having a "female" character.  I see TFs as being generless anyways.  I'm not being sexist here; I just think that there are better characters to use, especially since the bot cast has to be so limited.

what's wrong with having her look like a girl?  I don't mean the pink, but the proportions need to be there... no boobs necessarily, but we don't want a "big Bertha" female TF either

Could be because the most exposure most of us had with Arcee was from G1, where she was just window dressing for the most part. That and her "Oh...WOW!" voice didn't work wonders for her.

 

Yes, I KNOW this isn't G1 but I'm trying to offer a theory.

No, that would having the film centered around the Combaticons killing and maiming whilst beating up Minibots for around ninety minutes. Bludgeons great and all, but I merely bring him up as an example as it's the one that seems to be demonised and irritates people. :P

the thing with arcee is that she was not a well known character (i know this is not a g1 film but people will be looking for characters they know and care about) and bearing this in mind a character like wheeljack or ironhide or even sunstreaker or sideswipe would be better. they could even include wreckgar or groove if they want a bike.

also from a marketing point of view arcee would not sell as well as the other known character identities as the male characters always sell better in the lines as male characters are more conventional for robots' personas.

(i don't mind fembots in general, but to have arcee as one of the developing charactrer in the movie makes my blood and head squirm)

Yeah, Sunstreaker was such an indispensable G1 character that they gave Tracks all of his lines in S2.

 

That's the thing.  The reality of the G1 cartoon and it's characters doesn't really compare with the twenty years of imaginiation most of us have imbued them with.

Ok, I see your point now. I just can't imagine how so many people can rant and rave about it on DM's board :fire It's not THAT big of a deal.

Beleive me, of the general population to which this movie is going to be geared - the only characters that 95% of these people are going to remember are Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave - and maybe Jazz - and that's probably pushing it.

 

And I'd say that Wreckgar and Groove are way more obscure than Arcee.

I don't know about that, Arcee was one of the most difficult Energon characters to find.
