T2 and True Lies *did* suck. :P

sorry... I just thought Terminator didn't need a sequel, and True Lies was a bit too misogynistic for my taste. :thumb

Micheal Bay = action

:thumb good choice

I actually thought Rodriguez could have been a cool choice. Goodness knows the guy can get a lot of bang for his buck.

P.S. I agree 1000000000% about Ang Lee. Then again, I just saw Sin City, which is officially the best comic book adaptation of all time (visually speaking).

Note: I realize that we're talking about a kids franchise here, and we ain't getting Akira Kurosawa to direct, and the purpose of the film is to make money. With that out of the way. . .

Rodriguez would be a good choice to make the film profitable. His devotion to digital video drives the budgets for his films waaaaay down. And Sin City proves he can devote himself to the source material. Plus Sin City was the first full of digital effects film I've seen that hasn't really pissed me off with how fake it looks.

Bay will make the movie full of hip, wink-at-the-audience crap. The characters will be shallow and irritating. I think the only character I've ever liked in a Michael Bay movie was Ed Harris in The Rock, and that's mostly because Ed Harris kicks ass. If you doubt me, see Glengarry Glen Ross. . . though that movie may give you grudging respect for Alec Baldwin. If anyone says anything about Armageddon, I will remind them that the animal crackers scene is among the most insipid things I've ever seen on film. How anyone wastes William Fichter, Owen Wilson aaand Steve Buscemi in a film is beyond me.

And just because Ang Lee was dumb enough to think he could do the Hulk without the Hulk breaking lots of stuff doesn't mean that "prestige" directors will always screw up. Bryan Singer's two X-men films were pretty good, and I HAAAATE the X-men. Sam Raimi (who I'll remind everyone had a career AFTER the Evil Dead series, most notably the excellent 'A Simple Plan') has done a great job with Spider Man, another hero I don't really care for. And then there were Tim Burton's Batman films. . . and though it has yet to surface, Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins looks pretty good. None of these directors are the type who normally do big action films.

Finally, thanks for establishing that Sin City was the best comix adaptation visually. Best adaptation period has to go to American Splendor.

I'll agree with you on both counts-except True Lies was the last appearance of the Bill Paxton I like, the seedy ass who was Chet in Weird Science and Hudson in Aliens. Before Twister convinced him he should be a leading man. C'mon! This was the dude who gave us "Game Over, man! Game Over!" How do you take yourself seriously after that? His character was great.

But the end, with that "You're fired" BS? Laaaaaaaaaame.

Kinda agree with you on "True Lies." The Harrier almost makes up for it, though.

Back on topic: I think that we could've had worse choices. Ang Lee on "Hulk" pretty much sums it up--no one wanted to see "Hulk Instropect" or "Hulk Question Nature of Father" or even "Hulk Deal With Repressed Rage and Nightmares," they wanted "Hulk F**king SMASH!"

As far as "wink at the audience crap," go watch "The 6th Day" and "T3" for that and count the Ah-nuld/previous movie references to watch the hours fly by.

And since someone brought up Uwe Boll--I"ve seen "House of the Dead," and I wanted to buy a Dremel to use for purposes never before thought of by man.

And don't forget the Matrix - those guys hadn't done anything before that movie.

They did do a somewhat Tarantino-esque film called Bound, which is pretty good - best part: Gina Gershon and Meg Tilly :drool

C'MON! One super graphic girl on girl sex scene, as many merits as it has, does in no way beat one of Joey Pants' finest performances.

Joey Pants rules.

EDIT - Sorry, I didn't read the last posts, first

:tdown ............................ :inhrf

I agree with Trey and Matt

Michael Bay sucks.

I'm not sure I would even be seeing a TF movie directed by Bay. I've hated everything he's ever done.
