why fort max?

Recommended Posts

well, to play the devil's advocate, i actually don't like fort max. not because he's a brick- i think of him more like a cinder block.

to be fair, i don't realy like metroplex, either. i actually had a chance to buy one off a kid in school when i was little for $1, but i said no because i wanted the dollar more. :tflaugh1

note that i didn't say i hated them- i just wouldn't pay more than maybe $10 for one or the other. and that's in excellent shape with all accs.

which basically means i'll never own one.

but i'm fine with that.

I had Metroplex in the eighties and I found him dissapointing. I mean, he's supposed to be a city and a huge Transformer, but actually the toy was very small. I couldn't get Max then, but I really wanted him.

Since for me the comic was the TF continuity, Maximus was a major character. I liked Max because of his size (must say I prefer the comic size version), the playability and his character.

However, of all three incarnation of Maximus, the Car Robots Brave Maximus is my favorite.

I hear hes like 3feet tall or something

Exageration. It's about 22 inches.

i read this somewhere so im praphrasing what was originally said...

during xmas when every kid showed off what gr8 toys they got n u showed them what u got for xmas.. sure they got their ultra magnus or their optimus prime, but when you showed them ur fort max, u made every kid jealous. PLUS it was big enough to kick ur arse when ur a small child. u were pretty much the reason why the other kids wanted to go to ur house and play with u because u had the only thing that the other kids could play on!

my metroplex snapped in half btw. i never knew that fort max existed till RID. i still drool over pics of this gargantious toy.

I can tell you one reason I always had more affection for Fort Max than Microplex. Size and it's relation to usefulness. (Not just the size)

Metroplex is great for play as a base... if all your other TFs are Micromasters. The places built in to it for parking, etc are all that small scale. Fort Max can have the combiner limbs drive through him, the Helipad is the right size for Blades or other similar sized choppers. The ramps can double as takeoff points for Aerialbots and so on and so forth. You can capture smaller Dececticons and hold them in the prison. Plus there's that whole 'Cast a shadow over Menasor and make him run screaming like a little girl' thing.

Metroplex is barely bigger than Omega Supreme, as a toy. That makes his play limited. He can be displayed as something in the distance, but not played with well in relation to the other TFs.

That said, I'm looking to replace the one I lost yonks ago- I still have half his accessories. He LOOKS cool. Nice build, decent detail for a G1.

Am fortunate ebough to own Brave Max and my review is on www.TFormers.com

He is an really cool Transformer, mainly because he is HUGE. He looks so darn impressive and therefor is a must have.

Metroplex is probably a cool toy as well (do not have him) but his size is his biggest drawback.

Oh, as to their relative sizes in storyline, over s Seibertron the writeup indicated Fort Max is over 1160 fteet tall. Isn't that ballbark the same size as Metroplex?

I like Metroplex though - what he lacks in size he makes up for with a cool transformation into city mode and some nice big guns. Mind you, Fort Max just looks great when he towers above the rest of your toys!

The first version of Metroplex snaps in half. Fort Max doesn't.

Although this is what got me back into TFs in the first place - when I discovered Ebay years ago, bought a junker Metroplex and replaced the broken waist with the reinforced one from the second version. Practically as good as new. Of course, then I went on Ebay to complete G1 Bruticus. And then just started buying. Oops!

Why Fort Max? Lemme run down the list:

1.) Size: He's a frickin' city! Metroplex is one too, but it's really hard to pull that illusion off when Hot Rod is the size of your thigh. Fort Max, on the other hand, had a robot who turned into a head for a robot that turned into his head! Gonzo!

2.) Price: It's really rare that you're going to find a good quality Fort Max for sale, much less a 100% complete one. Metroplex, though, I've seen him on sale at various collectible stores down here, and based on my observations you could buy him then get all of his accessories and still come in under the $100 mark. Fort Max isn't that lucky.

3.) Bragging rights: Remember "G.I. Joe?" Remember the U.S.S. Flagg aircraft carrier--the one that was so big that Hasbro had to put more wheels on it and add a folding feature to the control tower, just so it could fit underneath a child's bed? Fort Max is the Flagg of Transformers--only the lucky or the rich would ever find one under the tree come Christmas morning. He's one of those elusive "Holy Grails" that collectors comb the Earth for since almost no one could buy him then, and there's no chance of a reissue now.

4.) Nostalgia: If you were a kid and you saw a toy that was half your size, you'd want it right away, wouldn't you? Some things never go away, like that feeling. This thing broke so many safety regulations by simply being cast in plastic that it's hard not to feel a sentiment of childhood just looking at that monster.
