Shockblast's new arm and first eye-test!

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally got my second Shockblast!

The original now has two arms:

And, using the head from the new Shocky....

That's right, folks! I finally got those damned ears off! I did the only thing I could do: slow, steady prying, until I had space to get my clamp in there and get better leverage to pop that beeyotch off its pin.

Once the neck was out, I just had to drill an LED-sized hole in the front of the neck cavity (the head is glued together, and I didn't see any point trying to pry THAT apart, and the neck cavity is directly behind the eye plastic), and inserting the LED.

It's red, 'cause the only LEDs I have are from e-Meg's tank(s). For the finished 'bash, I plan to replace my jury-rigged set-up with a longer (hopefully purple) wire from the LED, down through his neck and into the chest, where I'll mount the batteries and push-button (also from mini-Meg's tank).

In teh words of Neo- Whoah. :eek

That SLICK!

Sweet.

Excellent, DLP.

and Im assuming his alt mode, is just as unconviencing as the regular version? heh.

and, uh, can I have that cannon arm you removed?

I thought about doinbg the same thing with the arms.

me too... but i can't bring myself to buying 2 chockblasts for it.

nice work on the eye... some pics and detailed info would be nice for reproducing :)

I had a thought you might find interesting, but first:

Radio Shack carries electrical parts. They should have green LEDs in multiple assortments for pretty cheap.

And now:

Since you're having to gut the cannon of it's electrical parts anyway, I was thinking that you could cut off the entire part before the circular "elbow joint". Then, put your connectors inside this the shortened cannon. The reason I suggest this is, because of your new arm, the cannon would be incredibly long when attached. This way, you cut some length, and gain some sleekness.

If it's not doable, that's understandable, but I thought it might be of value to you anyway. Seriously, though, think about that green LED. The red one looks good, but green would be more appropriate for the character. Yellow would work best for his "Possessed by Unicron" look, but it really depends on what you're going for.

It's looks great, and the only criticism I would make is find a way to cover or hide the silver pin on the new left shoulder. It looks like obvious work has been done, but it's the only thing obvious about it. You've really done some excellent work!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah, I planned to use either a white LED (and let the plastic provide the color) or a yellow one (to enhance the plastic's color). The red one is just the only color I have here at the moment to test with. I don't even have proper wire to work with--I just twisted together wires cannibalized from the circuitry in the mini-Megatron tank! :tflaugh

The cannon will eventually clip on at his elbow, so it won't be too much longer than it was to begin with. (If I ever find a way to get the tip off the damned thing, I plan to put a white LED in there to light up the energon parts--the "claws" and backs of the solar panels.)

That silver 'pin' is actually the screw that holds the shoulder together. It's normally on the back, but since I've taken his right arm and put it on the left side, it has to be like that, or there's no up/down movement for his arm.

However, I'm toying with the idea of cutting the 'con symbol out of his old shoulder plate and applying it over the screw. I was gonna just glue it there, but it just occurred to me that I might want to remove the arm for whatever reason in the future, so now I'm wondering if I can find a really small hinge and turn it into a swinging panel, so the screw will be covered, but still accessible.

But, that's for later. Small steps, eh?

Thanks for the kudos, everyone! :D

Got any pictures of the alt mode?
