So I'm going home from workand decided to go look for Wheeljack in my neiborhood Target just to see if the Prime toys had started being stocked. And if there was a Soundwave, might as well pick him up too.

 

Well, getting there, yes, the TF Prime toys were there and I found Wheeljack! Score!! but just as I'm about to leave I hear someone saying..."Buy me"! Looking all around I was all "who's there?? You'll not pry the pick of destiny from my hands"! Still another "Buy me!" and I look down to see...RID Optimus Prime.

 

Now in previous threads I know I was all like ...man, SCREW RID! But just for giggles I picked him up after three minutes of contemplation, opened him up...I'm not disappointed.

 

You know it took the Takara commercial on Youtube to make me think twice about this figure and for me, I'm STILL waiting for Hasbro to make good on bringing out all the First Edition toys but this RID figure isn't half bad. I do say that all the bare gray plastic throws me off a bit and I would haave loved to see Hasbro put out a figure that had more of the red colors where it should have been. I'm still trying to grasp why HAsbro needs to make OP all nekid and all but still yet this guy in both modes isn't half bad as an Optimus Prime figureand I'm not sad that I got him. I mean if I can and soon I'll havve a FE Optimus and Bulkhead in my hands soon enough but having this in my hands completely changed my mind about him. ...Or was it the Takara commercial...I'm such a slave to advertising. Sigh.

 

What do you guys think of him? Those of you that actually picked him up? :)

I can't really say anything myself. I have both the RiD and FE Voyager Primes. I only bought RiD cause I thought I might not get FE for a reasonable price. Which I ended up doing. But anyway, for me FE is superior to the RiD, better paint and he doesn't look all scrawny. Do I regret buying him? No but the one I do regret is RiD Cliffjumper, he is nothing but garbage, I paid $45 for my FE Cliffjumper and actually glad I did, so later on I can offer up RiD Cliffjumper to someone else

I own a TakaraTOMY First Edition Optimus Prime and I have seen and handled both a Hasbro First Edition Voyager Optimus Prime and a PRiD Optimus Prime in real life; and I gotta say that PRiD Optimus Prime is utter CRAPHOUSE. The transparent blues and abundant greys look terrible, the toy is somewhat small for a Voyager and the engineering is underwhelmingly simplistic (which means on the plus side it's easy to transform). The gaps on the vehicle cab are unsightly and the weapon gimmick is five flavours of lame (although it's better than Megatron's; but that's not hard). PRiD Optimus Prime is way more of a kibblerrific backpackformer which is just blegh. No waist or wrist articulation either.

 

Considering that it's the same Voyager Price Point I cannot think of a single reason why anyone should get this Optimus Prime toy. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that PRiD Optimus Prime was some sad KO of FE OP (and actually that's how I feel about all PRiD toys where there is a FE counterpart). Just go get the First Edition; for whatever reason it seems that Hasbro has put a lot more care and attention in developing FE then just went "Meh" when it came to PRiD. :(

PRID Prime is a wonderful figure, I have him, and am not disappointed I paid the $26.99 price point for him at all. Though I'm still a little bummed out that the first edition figures were cancelled as the only ones I have in first edition are Bee, Arcee, and Screamer. The only thing I don't like is the crappy light up gun.

I'm starting to be a bit annoyed by the gun too. It would have been nice to have a better weapon to go along with RID Prime Prime and I do see that Hasbro was trying to go along with the transforming blaster aesthetic but I do think that it could have been carried out a lot better.

 

Prime does come out looking pretty cool next to RID Prime Megaton though. Still on the search for FE! ;)

 

BTW, aside from the paint,ehs is Awwwweeesome!!! Now why didn't they make sure that Optimus was JUST as badassed? It's like Prime's not their golden goose. :/

I just tossed his weapon in the drawer, and have him holding only his sword. Fortunately FE doesn't have that problem with the sword

I'm not crying over the Optimus at all, in fact give the rid Optimus a waist and that's all it's really missing as far as I'm concerned.

 

Bumblebee and Cliffjumper to me are the only 2 worth going the extra mile to pick up over the rid. Bumblebee more like a quarter mile, because he's not hard to get at all.

Vehicon at this point is an unknown. We haven't seen a full range of pics for the rid version which does look more accurate. But I do like that FE version and will have to find at least one at some point.

 

 

I'll be a lot more happy once Prime gets beyond these first few waves and get onto some more of the interesting new molds ahead. Hopefully Optimus and BB don't stonewall things too long.

For Bulk I don't want to settle though. I really want the FE version because that particular mold was so awesome. I only had the chance to pick up FE Arcee myself but can't wait to get the others in my hands.

 

BTW Goktimus, you just made me jealous of that FE Prime of yours. :)

I honestly don't think that RiD Prime is 'that' bad, the only things wrong on the core figure are the un-collapsed back kibble, and the lack of paint (which can be fixed pretty easily). Okay the weapons are terrible, but I think we will probably see either 3rd party release, or someone making them on shapeway.com (in fact there is a set of swords and smoke stacks already) On the FE, the torso part is great, but why have I not seen anyone complain about those giant clown heels???

 

At one point I did want to see if I can put the PRiD Prime's feet on FE's, but I don't it's possible.

I agree the FE Optimus is the superior toy compared to Rid Optimus.

 

However,I think the TF Prime weaponizers/leader sized optimus is more superior than both the FE & Rid voyager sized optimus toys.

So,i'll be buying only the Weaponizers/leader sized Optimus Prime toy.

 

As far as comments in this thread regarding all the FE toys being superior to their Rid counterparts. I totally DISAGREE with that statement. Minus FE Voyager Optimus,I think the other FE toys are inferior to the Rid counterparts.

 

examples:

(1)FE Voyager bulkhead has the following minuses: A ugly hasbro split pea green color. ugly face sculpt with small beady eyes.

the vechicle mode looks more cartoony & the head lights sculpt is awful. the Rid version has more weapons & they light up.

 

(2)RID voyager bulkhead has the following plus's: Hasbro darker green color. more beautiful face sculpt with better eyes. the vechicle mode looks more geared towards older kids/teens/adults. the vechicle mode has better sculpt & more realistic looking head lights. more weapons & they light up.

 

(3)FE Deluxe Arcee,has the following minus's: I never liked the inner face sculpt it look like those toddler friendly animated robot head sculpts,too simplistic. the robot chest is not cartoon acurate,the Rid version has the cartoon acurate sports bra.

FE Deluxes arcees weapons are smaller,don't combine & are not as cool as the Rid deluxe arcee weapons.

 

(4)Rid Deluxe arcee plus's: Has a more detailed & grown up looking inner face sculpt geared towards older kids/teens/adults. has a cartoon accurate sports bra. That blade weapon is over sized & leaps & bounds cooler than FE arcee's weapons.

 

(5)FE Deluxe Cliffjumper minus's: too boxy looking in both modes. not enough curves & rounded off parts. weapons not as big,nor cool as the Rid version.

 

(6)Rid deluxe Cliffjumper plus's: darker red color. better face sculpt. more rounded off parts & curves in both modes. bigger & better weapons compared to the FE version.

 

(7)FE deluxe Vechicon minus's. I loved the car mode,I always hated the robot mode. the face sculpt is beyond ugly & simplified. Has to much car kibble sticking out everywhere in robot mode. not a fan of the mix matches non-blending boxy mixed with rounded off parts. the arms,the head & arms look the worse. weapon not as cool as the Rid version.

 

(8) FE Deluxe vechicon plus's: The robot head sculpt is more beautiful,more detailed & aimed at older kids/fans/adults. This is the best re-imagined toy i've seen in a long time. the robot mode has more rounded off parts,better sculpt,looks more cartoon accurate. has a better weapon. has less,next to none car kibble in the robot mode. any car kibble shown in robot modes does a better job of looking better & blending in more fluidly compared to the FE version.
