megatron's new look

I am curious to know though what the plan would be for a leader Megs. Knowing Hasbro, we'll get what basically amounts to an upscaled version of the Cyberverse and it will be the cab only with a gaudy mechtech weapon.

I just can't really see a leader class version that's anything like the voyager with the full trailer section. An ultimate version...now that we would be more likely to get with full trailer.

The Cyberverse Megatron with him as the cab and the trailer as the weapon/armor looks pretty good but I think I like the Voyager style better.

I don't know...I could see a leader class version of him complete with the trailer. ROTF Jetfire's alt mode was pretty sizable (length and width), probably on order with what Megs' truck mode would entail. He would just decompress. Actually, the truck mode for the voyager figure--while FANTASTIC--looks shorter than what I've seen of the truck IRL. But I do think it would be very possible.

Also: I would be remiss if I did not point out that this is one of the--if not THE--most creative takes on Megatron I've ever seen, and not just because he's a truck. The unique transformation (the whole tanker truck convincingly turns into the robot!!!)and specific design parameters (chains, cape and cowl)conspire to create a very unique take on an iconic character. Kudos to the designers for what they've managed to pull off. Through 3 movies, Megatron has had one of the most consistently superb designs.

Finally, one of his toys manages to convey that fact.

I do have one issue with the new Megatron design: scale. Megatron and Optimus have always been close to the same size. The average trailer is 55 feet long with the truck itself being another 20 foot or so depending on the model. Even if the trailer compressed way down, which it doesn't in the Voyager version, this incarnation of Megs would tower over Prime. Even if you employ the concept of "mass shifting" to explain this away the way some do for Megs and Soundwave in G1 it would make no sense here given both the established rules of the Bayverse and the fact that Megatron would be shifting mass in a way that puts him on more even ground with his nemesis in stead of retaining the obvious advantage of being nearly twice his size.

It'll be interesting to see which version of Megs (cab and trailer OR cab only) they use in DOTM.

Still, I love this design and hope we get some kind of Leader class representation of it.

Isn't Soundwave Dr. Claw

I was thinking of much the same thing looking at the voyager and the shots of the prop vehicle. Granted: without a visual of the transformation sequence the CGI will employ, it's hard for me to say whether this Megs will pull an Animated on us and tower over Prime, or if his mass will shift in a fashion that the voyager can only very generally (if at all) begin to represent, but the voyager--which I love--has different proportions than the 2 images I've seen of DOTM Megs in base mode and seems to actually resemble the CGI only in the most general fashion. It may simply be because they transform completely differently, which would distribute the mass differently and give us (theroretically) a Megatron that stands just as tall as Prime does, despite being considerably longer in alternate mode. Besides: the Bayverse does cheat. They just tell us they don't. :D

But as far as scale goes: At least this Megs is closer to being in scale to Voyager Blackout and DLX Bonecrusher. God, Transformer toy scale SUCKS.

*GASP*

The Bayverse cheats?!? Bite your tongue! :P

Agreed on all counts. It's frustrating to find a figure with great looks and transformation that is completely out of scale with the rest of the stuff you have.

That's what drives me crazy about the Cyberverse sets. I think they're really cool but go with nothing else I have except, obviously, other legends and scouts. I can't have Cosmos tower over Megatron. Although Cosmos Prime does have a certain ring to it....

I'm okay with it. But still curious why High Moon images of DOTM game still showing him with Cybertronian forms?

Maybe Cosmos took a hit off the Underbase?

But yeah, it's EXTREMELY frustrating. I play TFs with the kid, and even at 7 he's asking me why I've got the TFA Bumblebee Activator, the Classics Seekers/Optimus Prime interacting with various voyager and DLX scaled-Bayformers. Just can't make it work otherwise from a scale standpoint. To use Lugnut, I've got to dig out my WFC Prime and Megs and TFA Activator Starscream, or at least his Robot Replica. Ugghhh.

SHELLFORMER V1 MAKES A PROSPECTIVE DEAL WITH THE DEVIL:

Here's hoping at some point HasTak takes pity on us and gives us a larger version of both Blackout and Bonecrusher. I've got a deal for you, HasTak: give me a LC version of both these characters and I will champion the Bayverse like no one ever has or ever will. I will shill and sell my soul and extoll the virtue of Mr. Michael Bay and everything--EVERYTHING--he has ever done (even Bad Boys II!!!). I will defend your shameless release of blatant repaints, your hyper-exploitation of Bumblebee and your relentless attacks on 3rd party toy manufacturers. I'll even buy Ultimate Bumblebee. Twice. Just please Please PLEASE hook me up with a LC version of Blackout and Bonecrusher. They could even be dual model kits. Just make like Nike and just do it.

Oh, and while you're at it, HasTak: HA Soundwave and Sideways.

Do it NOW. Don't release another Bumblebee or do another Ratchet repaint. Produce and release them NOW. Before it's too late.

I'm okay with it. But still curious why High Moon images of DOTM game still showing him with Cybertronian forms?

i

I read a story about/interview with High Moon Studios (I believe on gameinformer.com or 1up.com) that said since the DOTM game is actually a prequel to the DOTM movie part of the story that will be told is of Megatron's recovery from the events of ROTF and subsequent acquisition of the truck alt mode. I don't know how far in the game you have to get before this happens though....
