G1 Starscream was not a bad ass

Recommended Posts

I associated g1 cartoon starscream with Chris Latta, and we all remember how great a leader Cobra Commander was

HAR! I always thought Screamer was a girl when I was little, anyway. :tflaugh

So does my son. I keep saying "he's really a boy" and my son keeps saying "no Daddy she's a girl." I can't really think of anything to prove him wrong.

for SS it was always the wrong time of the month :redface

Why does Starscream have such a fanboy following anyway? Is it just because he's constantly the inferior and fanboys find this easy to relate to? Don't get me wrong, starscream is a cool character, I just don't understand his cult following. Anyone know what prompted it?

probably because he is one of the characters most remembered

again, I refer you to the Marvel/Dreamwave continuity. For me, those continuities give more substance to the characters.

Losers can have a cult following. And Starscream isn't exactly what you'd call a loser. Bad decisions and being depicted as a moron in G1 cartoons? Maybe.

BTW, LM: The cartoons may have generated Starscream's persona, but the early ones were a bit better written than the later ones. And no, I'm not trying to create a new sub-G1 group of purists. I'm only trying to point out that the comics did a far better job of depicting Starscream. I know that the episodes weren't meant for deep interpretation. But it's there, and it's gonna get looked into on many levels whether we like it or not.

Also, if Starscream wasn't a badass, would he even lead the decepticon seekers. I can just imagine him and his two pals shooting down human planes in a scene that would make the promos for Ace Combat 5 look like poorly done flash animation!

Even though Starscream feared Megatron he continued to betray him every chance he got. The other Decepticons were to cowardly to even question Megatron. As for Shockwave or Soundwave killing Starscream. That wouldn't happen since Starscream forced Shockwave and Soundwave under his command when ever Megatron wasn't around.

Id say screamer had the shortest reign as Decepticon leader ever in tf:tm. When he merged with the war world in the G2 comic it reall back fired...

I don't think SS was particulary that great. I will have to applaud him for his actions in MTME when he decided he should blow away the bots so they could not come back at all. But afterwords he did take a pretty big down turn of stupidity and cowardice.

The ONLY good Starscream was the Armada Varient. That guy had a soul.. he would do things that G1 Screamer wouldn't be capable of doing. If it wasn't for Starscream, Galvatron would not of helped Prime fight off Unicron.. despite him giving his life for the task.

I think his appeal lies in his self-serving, rebellious attitude, plus the fact that he thinks he's more of a badass than he really is. I'll be honest, at one point those characteristics defined me pretty well.
