G1 Starscream was not a bad ass

Recommended Posts

Even though Starscream feared Megatron he continued to betray him every chance he got. The other Decepticons were to cowardly to even question Megatron. As for Shockwave or Soundwave killing Starscream. That wouldn't happen since Starscream forced Shockwave and Soundwave under his command when ever Megatron wasn't around.

only in the G1 cartoon where Shockwave was a scycophant, in all the comics shockwave would have blown himm apart with great pleasure (should logic dictate of course) and Soundwave served as leader in the G1 comic (Uk continuity) over Starscream

Starscream is one of the few with a real personality, devious, often fun and humourous, his persona of pointing out mistakes (Megatrons) is a psychological trick used in business today, people always point out others mistakes to `big` themselves up although not too many in business should blow you to smitherines ;) I never cared for starscream but was leader of the seekers for a couple of reasons, intelligent (ish) and the fastest of the jets, important in a power based hierarchy. I see him along the lines of Commodus as the emperor of Rome, got there through guile and careful manipulation but without the force of character to inspire loyalty to maintain his position.

I am not a fanboy but think hes popular as is an amalgamation of a lot of qualities people can relate to ;)

Starscream has served under the command of Shockwave in the Marvel continuity, and both Shockwave and Soundwave had little tolerance for him. Shockwave was leader of the Decepticons in the future during Galvatron's absence. When Shockwave was killed by Death's Head, Soundwave took his place. Shockwave also served as leader in the present during Megatron's absence. Soundwave served him loyally at that time as well.

I never understood how Soundwave / Shockwave ever took orders from Starscream. Both of them were fiercely loyal to Megatron, and yet whenever Starscream took over, it was like "oh okay, whatever you say." (I specifically remember in "Atlantis, Arise" how Starscream made Soundwave translate everything Nergil was saying -- the guy was totally selling out the 'Cons and Soundwave knew it, but he never even said anything to Megatron about it?!) Meh, poorly done character development.

in the comic, Shockwave was never loyal to Megatron. He planned to overthrow him more times than Starscream. And he hated Galvatron even more. Soundwave was only loyal to both when it suited him. He was eager to lead the Decepticons once Shockwave was out of the way. Again, another reason why I like the comic continuity better.

I don't think SS was particulary that great. I will have to applaud him for his actions in MTME when he decided he should blow away the bots so they could not come back at all.

Was that before or after he started firing on the Ark, triggering Teletran's reactivation of the Autobots? :tflaugh

Seriously, that was the dumbest thing Megatron ever did. "Oh wow, we're alive again because this computer has reactivated us. So now let's leave the computer intact with the Autobots still lying here, and just go away somewhere else. What could go wrong?"

The ONLY good Starscream was the Armada Varient. That guy had a soul.. he would do things that G1 Screamer wouldn't be capable of doing. If it wasn't for Starscream, Galvatron would not of helped Prime fight off Unicron.. despite him giving his life for the task.

Actually...while he WAS a very cool character (probably the best in armada)...those are the reasons he's NOT the best Starscream. If anything he was more like Thundercracker's personality...

Best version of Starscream are his ghost episodes, especially Beastwars when he took over Waspinator. I mean to con Unicron, cause havoc among the Deceptcions...He wasn't the most honorable character. Even the Beastwars II namesake was sneaky.

I like him because he was an exploiter...a manipulator...and would try to have his bases covered. Starscream's Brigade is a perfect example. He made the combaticons to counter every strength (save a big gestault dropping off a cliff and slamming them in the back...but still)...even put a fail safe in Bruiticus just in case.

Yup... it makes sense that someone as devious as himself would find it hard to trust others...

he'd only trust one other aside himself, Jetfire/skyfire...that's why when he turned autobot it REALLY set him off

I disagree with Big Grim!

Not really, I just wanted everyone to read my post :redface Anyway, with mention of the comics (US & UK) I feel for those who only got 1/2 or 1/3 of the story. If you were not lucky enough to have collected the comics as a youth then please check out Titan Books http://www.titanbooks.com/transformers.html

You can get every US G1 (14 books) & G2 (2 books) and most of the UK (9 books) comic in TPB. Note: The US issues that were reprints of the UK comic were left out of the US books.

Congrats OPP! I really thought this topic was meant for INH at first but everyone past the second post has made good sense.
