so i was thinking about this today, as it seems every time i make a preorder or a larger purchase, i alter my personal continuity so the arrival of the new toy makes sense. for instance, when i got Defender, i had my universe Springer damaged in a conflict with galvatron, and defender was the result of upgrades performed by ratchet and wheeljack. a similar incident occurred with the acquisition of the Superion limb set. sometimes when i get a completely new figure that i hadnt had a representation of, like when i got ML Soundwave, it was because Megatron had competed a space bridge and summoned him.

 

what do you guys do when you get a new figure, and what do you do with multiple iterations of the same character?

It can vary I s'pose.

 

The way I made it paoosible for Optimus to "upgrade" was because he was hit with a form of the hate plague that also caused internal damage. When he was offered the Matrix back by Hotrod, It caused his boday to change form (from deluxe to voyager)a bit like Optimus Primal in BW when he takes Prime's spark.

 

And then of course there's alternate realities :tflaugh

For me its not about developing a personal canon for figures. I just buy what I like. For Comics, and the actual TV shows? That's different, for all the BW shows including the Japanese ones. I place them on Neo Cybertron, since the true Cybertron was destroyed by Zarak back in Headmasters. Also the Maximals and Predacons are sub groups created by the Autobots and remaining Decepticons after the final war. It takes place 10 million years after Operation Combination. BM was something Wreck-Gar dreamed up after drinking too much Energon Beer and was subsequently slapped and instantly sobered by Rodimus Prime with help from Primus. So it never happened, RiD is alternate universe.

Universe 2003 was a way to relive the Great Wars. And so on and so on

I do something similar, but have a few different reasons for stuff happening.

 

Figures like say Cheetor and Hot Shot who constantly get new figures have new bodies built for them since their abilities surpassed their previous form. When this happens the old body isn't disguarded but the spark/core/program is split creating 2 completely new individuals from the one.

 

I refer to it as "sparkshare" both are essentialy the same guy, but they share very few links after the division and develope further as they experience new things.

 

Then there's figures who have multiple figures who are a step beyond this like Optimus, and Soundwave. While they can and do utilize sparkshare, there are different factors involved. For me G1/G2, RID, AEC, Animated, and Movie Primes are not the same character even though they are all Optimus Prime.

I explain this with the time tampering in Beast Wars. When Primal took Primes spark in Beast Wars, the timeline changed and instead of the autobots waking up in 1984, they came back online much sooner. When Optimus' spark was replaced the timeline was restored and the RID events undid themselves.

 

The Characters remain though as my collection is like a nexus when it comes to these matters.

 

AEC was something similar resulting from when Megatron2 took Megatron's spark. The timeline was altered again, but this time Unicron was able to displace himself within it rupturing it even further.

-AEC utilizes alot of sparkshare.

Same as before when Megatron was restored, before that happened though Primus was awakened. The massive energy released in that event copied the essence of many Transformers and created new raw versions of the figures...

 

Hence Movie Prime is purely the essence of Optimus Prime made in the wake of Primus.

 

Then there's the Classics. It's more sparksharing, but on Megatron's side it was a chance to clean house. The AEC Megatrons were different then the AEC Primes. They were commissoned by G1 Megatron to carry his spark. After all in this timeline, he had the upper hand.

Classics Megatron was charged with stripping the AEC Megatrons of any trace of G1 Megatron's essence.

 

He succeeded. Now those Megatrons simply go by Armada(who's been reduced to little more then a drone), High Lord (the most active one of the three), and Master (who is constantly getting beat down).

 

The Movie Megatrons aren't Megatrons at all. Enraged by the constant defeats and pumbled to near death by Optimal Optimus Master's broken form spawned a nindless beast fueled by pure rage. This is 07 Movie Megatron. His Voyager versions are further spawns, but seem to be a bit more intelegent.

 

TF2 Megatron is an attempt by High Lord to mimmic that happening in a controlled situation. He and TM2 Megatron are using a dark matrix to pull this off.

The Fallen and Ravage are ancient beasts TM2 resurrected using said dark Matrix.

 

Now honestly, I can keep going on with this, and as you can see I don't care about each line keeping its provided origin. Again, my collection is like a nexus for everything. Think of it like a glint in the many sides of the matrix core. It's just alot of upgrades, down grades, and various random events all collected in one place :D

Uh, ok. So a new guy shows up and he's all, hey, look at all you guys, and the others are like, hey, how can you be Bumblebee (or Optimus or brawn or whoever), when he's already here? And New Guy goes, yeah, I'm from the future or the Moon or whatever, and so they all hang out and chill.

 

(In case you can't tell, I have no personal canon, I just collect toys. And that's OK.)

Nowadays, I just don't do the personal canon thing. Nothing wrong with those who do, but I'm a bit too lazy to come up with anything that complex.

IDK, theres no effort involved, and I'm not trying. This is just the type of thing that happens naturaly for me.

A peek inside my head would confirm suspicions that I'm less stable than Animated Blitzwing. :eek I guess in the toy collecting regard, I'm just more willing to accept that say this is Animated Activators Bumblebee and this is Animated Deluxe Bumblebee. Heck, I've technically got three different G1 Silverbolts, and I'm just fine with that. (BW Silverbolt that forms Magnaboss, Universe Ultra Class Silverbolt, and the Energon Storm Jet repaint)
