Primus

now that i would have liked to see. maybe then we wouldnt have had so many prime deaths and resurrections in the following years. this is sort of a fanboi question, but is primus transforming into cybertron G1 canon or simply a cool idea adopted from the cybertron cartoon? or both even?

It's G1 canon. He just very rarely ever transforms. Don Figueroa drew a robot mode for Primus asa concept for War Within, and this rendering was published in the TPB as a blueprint, and in full color in Transformers: The Ultimate Guide. It was only later that the Cybertrpn cartoon showed Cybertron actually transform into Primus within a story itself. So, to answer your question, Primus' ability to transform from the planet Cybertron into his humanoid form is established across the multiverse, but has very rarely been demonstrated. He prefers to remain in planet form.

Yes...and no. It is now G1 canon in the form of a concept drawing by Don Fig that was used in Furman's Ultimate Guide, but it's not G1 canon in the form that it was ever used in a single incarnation of the G1 story.

During the G1 movie Primus wasn't though up yet (in the way we later got to know him). Furman did this for the UK comics and took this idea with him when he went to write for the US comics. But in those stories Primus definitely couldn't transform. He had chosen not to remake his planet body like Unicron did, probably for a large part because he feared that doing so would mean another big fight and lots of destruction. (And also, because he's need fuel to run this body, fuel Unicron got by consuming other worlds.)

Besides, considering that Primus created the transformers to fight Unicron in his place (so that the battle would be more localized), it would make the whole creation of the TF's useless if Primus could just transform himself and fight Unicron.

Primus isn't as physically strong or powerful as Unicron. Thus he chose to create the Transformers and passed his abilities on to them and chose to remain in planet form. He still has the ability to transform to a humanoid mode. Whether or not he ever took his humanoid form within a given story is moot. He has the ability, but chooses not to use it. As for Primus not having been created yet in 1986, this is correct. He hadn't even been thought of yet in any form. As a retroactive reason for why he didn't wake up, that would have revealed his presence to Unicron, which would have been much worse off for the Transformers.

here we go again folks

still don't understand how letting Unicron eat more stuff and get stronger longer would be worse then having a planet sized robot transform and lead a worldwide civilization into battle to get it over with?

But I'm sure whatever...

i'm with you on this one

Tommy the cat is my favorite Primus song, second to Jerry was a race car driver.

Oh, THAT Primus,

I always took G1 Primus to be a non transforming entity, until recent retcons have changed it around. I'm still not sure how to take it, as wasn't that the whole point of creating the Transformers race? However, I do think it looks cool.

that was one of my favorite sceens in Cybertron, not cause the transformation was so great, but because all the Autobot's seemed to have a temporary mental breakdown.

The real reason honestly is that they didn't delve into the idea of Primus till after the movie. To this day Transformers aren't all that well mapped out and they just seem to add to it as they go along.

In all honesty, these things help me dismiss the idea of cannon easily in lue of personal/fanfic.

If your expecting and reason to come from IDW or Has/Tak, you may as well be dealing with this guy.

All it takes is one new writer or cancelled series to take everything known and throw it out the window (yet again).

I say, find what works for you and run with it.

Many years ago I travelled back in time, but also forward to stop the giant evil robot invasion of 2037 from occurring in the year 1777. Many sentient mushrooms came to aid in the battle but it wasn't long before the mechanical abominations unveiled a giant laser and blasted everyone even further... into time. We woke up in the distant future, which is now, and I must find the one known as Meatwad Prime and help him fulfill his ancient destiny. And that, is why my socks are laser guided and super deadly and I go CRAZY if you touch them.

Who cares about Canon? like was mentioned earlier if you try to figure it out you would probably go insane. And Liege hit the mark with a preference on personal and fanfic as your canon.

I subscribe to the fact that Primus can Transform from planet to giant robot. But I also feel that for G1 Primus was not Cybertron but another unnamed planet. It works for me, since I subscribe mostly to Japanese fiction where Cybertron was blown up in Headmasters. Thus forcing BW to happen in another continuity and forcing BM completely out of the multiverse. Thats personal TF Canon right there. And it makes a lot more sense to me.

What you could do is accept the fact that in the Multiverse everything has happened and dream up your own stuff to put in there
