These are the posts I love the most. When did fans of a kids toy line suddenly become their grandparents? This isn't a movie for children, so I see nothing wrong with any of the humor. Even if I did, it was such a minor part of the movie it's not even worth mentioning.

So its a kids toy line yet the movie isn't for children? Make up your mind.

No the movie wasn't. Toys are toys, movies are movies. A movie geared for small kids would be rated G not PG-13. I see Terminator toys all over the toy aisle, were the Terminator movies meant for kids? Obviously not.

I can go to TRU right now and buy Friday the 13th figures, Nightmare On Elm Street figures and Texas Chainsaw Massacre figures. TRU is a kids toy store is it not? Were any of those movies for kids? No.

Transformers started out a kids brand that evolved beyond. Does that mean everything related to the brand automatically has to be for kids as well? You have plenty of cartoons and comics that the kids can enjoy. The movie is for older kids (above 13) and adults.

Parents have the power to decide if they want their kids to see a movie like that or not. If they decide to take small kids without taking the time to find out about any questionable content and then complain then it's their own fault.

I think the problem lies more with Hasbro marketing war for kids. Why not make an issue out of that? War is a lot more obscene than a few jokes and naughty words.

Regardless of what the movies rating was, Transformers is a franchise which historically has always been geared towards children. Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street have NEVER been geared to kids, so your point is moot.

Transformers STARTED as a line for kids. Since then it has moved beyond, far beyond. As a TF fan I fully appreciate finally getting something that doesn't only pander to kids.

History means nothing. Things change in this world every single day moving beyond what they were originally intended for.

That's my point and it's not moot.

Besides, the country has gotten wussified enough already. We've grown far too sensitive, far too soft, and far too complacent.

People are sitting around debating the few silly gags like Bay broke one of the 10 commandments about a movie that depicts death and massive destruction. Don't you think that should be more appalling than a few bad jokes and naughty words?

Why not get pissed at Hasbro in the first place for hooking kids on engines of mass destruction. If anything mentioned in this movie could have any sort of damaging effect on kids then none would be more so than that.

..........The most recent Transformers TV show was heavily geared towards children. It has NOT moved beyond, nor far beyond. In fact, the only show you could probably say wasn't so kid friendly was Beast Machines. Since then, most if not all shows were heavily geared to kids, starring kid protagonists/friends to the Autobots.

Recent TV show? Who is talking about that? I'm not. I'm not saying that just because adults have latched onto the Transformers franchise that the entire franchise belongs to us. Yes, it is still mostly for kids. Never discounted that fact.

By the fact that you have a large group of grown adults collecting and discussing in depth what started out as a kids franchise is what I mean when I say it has moved beyond.

Now if you had a Sesame Street movie with Oscar dropping F bombs, I could see there being offense. Sesame Street is a kids franchise that has not moved to having a heavy adult following. Transformers has.

We (the fans and collectors) have created a new segment in the Transformers market which the movie fills. Just because it was once only a kids franchise, doesn't mean it always has to be...and it no longer is.

I mentioned the recent TV show cause you did say "Transformers STARTED as a line for kids. Since then it has moved beyond, far beyond." if it moved so far beyond being a kids franchise, then why were the previous shows geared towards children? RID? Armada? Energon? Cybertron? ANIMATED?

Do you really think Hasbro makes their money on adults/collectors. They make their money on toy sales, mostly for kids. They are always going to gear the line to children. If they went with a more "adult' based transformers theme, then they would literally cut out their most important market. just cause you're an adult who collects toys doesn't mean Hasbro is creating this product specifically for you. Yes, they throw collectors a bone every now and then, but on the most part, they are out for the business of selling toys to the parents of children. Transformers started as a line for kids, and continues to be a line primarily geared to kids, despite the adult collectors.

Also, first you mention Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, now you mention Sesame Street. Why can't you keep the discussion on Transformers. Bringing in other franchises to try to make your point doesn't say much. As I mentioned earlier, Friday/Nightmare was NEVER geared to kids. Sesame Street is geared to preschool children as an educational tool. Again, your point makes no sense and doesn't carry any weight.

People who fail to comprehend make my brain hurt.

I'm sorry I can't draw everything into pretty little pictures that everyone can understand. I rely on peoples ability to actually comprehend. That's my mistake.

Let's try this.

We're not talking about the cartoon shows, which are for kids. We're discussing a movie which isn't. Whatever you think of the franchise, it's not only for kids anymore. I didn't imply (or mean to) that the whole franchise is not for kids anymore, simply that it's not ALL for kids anymore. Don't tell me you can't get that.

If you don't think over 25 years of kids growing into adult fans hasn't grown into a pretty sizable cash cow for Hasbro then all I can say is that we wouldn't be here right now talking about this because these movies would have never been made. Any movies would have been just like the cartoons.

The only reason the movies were made in the first place was because Don Murphy recognized the fact that it had grown into something so much more than a mere kids franchise and he managed to kindle interest in making the films. I would give you other examples, but you seem to be having a hard time with them so I won't.

A lot of people seem to think that if there is a toy line associated with movies that it automatically means the movie should have been for kids. Well, I simply provided examples to show that isn't always the case. Sorry if that threw you.

Keep in mind, sometimes people will use other examples to help better illustrate a point.

There was a documentary I watched about the history of toys. In that documentary it stated that roughly HALF of action figure sales were to ADULT COLLECTORS. That includes Transformers who probably have a bigger adult following than most.

So where is the rule that says Hasbro only has to pander to kids and can't change it's mind and go after some of the adult crowd too? That's what the movies do. The cartoons remain for the kiddies. Everyone gets what they want.

^^ Oh I understand you completely. No need to put things in "simple terms." I just think you are completely wrong in your assessment of the line not being a kids line anymore. Again, you say we are not talking about the cartoons, but YOU were the one who brought up the fact that the line was beyond being geared to kids. I just countered with the cartoon argument. You can't break up the franchise to meet your definitions. Transformers are toys, comics, cartoons and now movies. they are all tied together. Animated was more or less pushed because of the success of the first movie. Was Animated geared to adults? No, it was geared to children. they could have easily made it for adults, had bot gore and the whole nine, but they didn't. Hasbro knows where their money comes from. They have to pander to kids, cause if they start releases figures like that mock-up Arcee Dildo figure that was floating around (I'll let you google Adult Transformers), then they will be losing money.

The movies weren't kid friendly, not cause they were not trying to gear it to kids, but because they failed to follow their practice and risked alienating a lot of fans. Transformers will always be a kids line first, adults/collectors line second. Parents take kids to a Transformers movie cause their kids watch the show. They shouldn't have to be faced with the nonsense that was put in this film. If you found the "toilet humor" funny, then I see why you have the opinion you have.

Dude, READ.

I never said it wasn't a kids line anymore. Never, never, never.

It's not ONLY a kids line anymore.

Did you get that? Let me say it again...it's not ONLY a kids line anymore. It hasn't been for a long time now. I don't care about how things were in the past. Hasbro used to only recognize one demographic, kids. That has changed dramatically in the last few years because Hasbro woke up and finally realized that pandering to adult fans can be awfully profitable too.

Cartoons- geared for kids.

Toys- geared (mostly) for kids. Plenty of them geared for collectors now.

Movie- NOT geared for (small) kids. Not the merchandising associated with movie, I'm talking about the movie itself.

They are all different things. Part of one franchise, but not all meant for the same demographic. It's Hasbro's right to go after any demographic that they want to with whatever property they own. That's what they are doing with the movies.

Not everything is about the kids. Sometimes us big kids need some satisfaction too and for us, Hasbro gave us what we wanted with the movies. If Hasbro had intended to make this movie franchise geared more for kids, then I don't think they ever would have let things go in this direction.

Dislike it all you want, the movies are here to stay. So long as they keep raking in the bucks you can expect more of the same in future movies.

You know, Beast Wars was written for adults and kids too. Beast Wars also had sexual innuendo and adult humour. The difference is that Beast Wars was _clever_ and made its adult jokes subtle so that adults could have a good giggle and it kids just wouldn't get it. The problem with the adult humour and references in ROTF is that they're as obvious as being slapped in the face with a live trout with all the subtlety of a rampaging bull in a china shop.

For someone to say that open adult humour is acceptable because it's an adult movie contradicts the fact that:

1. Everyone knows that the Transformers franchise will attract children, and a LOT of the marketing for the movie was aimed at kids. There's TF movie school stationery, stickers, colouring in books and of course, _toys_. I don't see Kill Bill toys at Toys R Us.

2. Michael Bay himself stated that the twins were created to appeal to children. You wouldn't say that if you only intended for adults to watch your film. Quentin Tarantino doesn't make kid appeal characters in his movies.

3. Transformers is rated M. Not R. Not even MA15+! The M rating is an entirely unrestricted rating. It merely informs people that it contains content that is moderate in impact (whereas PG is mild in impact and G is very mild in impact; reference)

The movie may not be primarily geared for kids, but it doesn't exclude them either (cos if it did, then Paramount should've pushed for a restricted classification like MA15+).

The reality is that Transformers has adult and kid fans; and I don't like it when a TF story excludes one group at the expense of the other. I didn't like how Beast Machines was too adult and had little appeal for kids, nor did I like how the Unicron Trilogy had little appeal for adults.

And the adult humour in ROTF was actually pretty IMMATURE. Oh look, humping, farting, pissing etc. That's not adult humour, that's TWEEN humour. (-_-) And unlike the adult humour and references in Beast Wars, there was nothing terribly clever about the way it was done.

But the most annoying thing about some of the humour was how it disrupted the flow of the story. Seeing Jetfire fart a parachute while he's in the middle of delivering a really important plot exposition... that ruined the whole mood. Imagine if this happened in The Empire Strikes Back...

Vader: "No, I am--" **farrrtt** "--your father!"

One thing that makes jokes funny is TIMING. It's the same reason why a lot of Star Wars fans don't like Jar Jar Binks. Yeah he's funny... but a lot of his antics contributed NOTHING to the story (seriously, you could delete 85% of Jar Jar's appearance in The Phantom Menace and it would _not_ change the plot) and a lot of his goofy antics were ill timed. Ditto Wheelie and Daniel in most of Transformers The Movie and the entire third season of G1 (seriously, would the final outcome of Season 3 be any different if you removed Daniel and Wheelie?).

ROTF is a long enough movie that didn't need to be dragged out any longer with unnecessary and ill-timed gags written with all the humorous wit of an 11 year old.
